Cooperstown, New York
For baseball enthusiasts, Cooperstown is a
no brainer. Even if you’ve made several visits
to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, artifacts,
plaques, and other special exhibits are always
added and new players continue to be inducted,
making repeat visits still fun. You will be in awe.
If you’re into memorabilia, there are tons of shops
surrounding the hall where you can perhaps find a
perfect deal.
For the non-baseball fan, it’s still worth a visit if
you plan on going with your significant other or a
group of friends. The town has a great old school
feel to it with several great eateries and provides
plenty of good ol’ fashioned fun, such as mini-golf,
bowling, etc.
Sure, you can do that anywhere, but there’s
something about doing it in a small town that
offers a great escape.

The City of Brotherly Love isn’t too far by car,
bus or train. Sure, there are similarities to New
York. But there is rich American history that can’t
be ignored and should be visited every so often.
From the museums, (run up those “Rocky”
steps) to visiting the Liberty Bell and dining at
fine restaurants as well as top notch cheese steak
joints, it’s a fun weekend trip.
Philadelphia City Hall and Independence
National Historical Park are must visits, plus there
are several unique shopping areas and there’s
always a sporting event. If you’re rooting for the
opposing team, be discreet.

For the camper in you, this place is a no brainer.
But even if you’re the type that prefers hotels
over sitting outside over a campfire, you owe it to
yourself to give it a try.
September is a great time as the weather isn’t
too hot and may even be chilly enough to warm up
by the fire. Before heading to the campgrounds,
spend an evening at a close-by giant grocery store
to stock up on food and other supplies, and rent a
rustic cabin or full service cottage. With the right
company, that’s all you need.
Of course, they also offer games, tennis courts,
outdoor movies, row boat rentals, biking and
hiking and Saturday bonfires. This writer has been
there once, despite many reservations, and it
ended up being the perfect quick getaway - sans
laptop and cellphone -- before the grind began.
