This team will probably go to the World Series.
That should be the end of the rundown. They are
no doubt favorites. But there are concerns, a few,
but some nonetheless that could thwart their run
once in the postseason.
The big acquisition that rocked the baseball
world and turned the new Yanks from somewhat
underdogs to the Evil Empire once again was
Giancarlo Stanton, the National League’s MVP
who hit a massive 57 home runs. He was acquired
thanks to the Miami Marlins purge of players.
Imagine what damage he will cause at Yankee
Stadium where balls are sure to fly out. They didn’t
need Stanton. They needed a third baseman more
and he’s a better version, for now, of Judge, the new
fan favorite. But having him in that lineup could
create history because the two monster hitters are
in a lineup with the young and solid hitting catcher
Gary Sanchez (33 homers last year), Gregorius,
the young and thriving Greg Bird, and others. This
could be the best hitting team New York has seen
in a while.
There are concerns though. Second and third
base could be issues. Bird hasn’t proven that he
could put up great numbers for a full season, and
Stanton has some injury history. And although
you’ll take the bad with the amazing, Judge needs
to cut down on the strikeouts. These are a bit of a
stretch. They’re going to pound the ball. Early and
often.
The true concern would be the starting rotation.
In an odd off-season in which some players didn’t
get the large payday they had hoped for, the
Yankees oddly didn’t sign a starting pitcher and
take advantage of a strange market.
