Outdoor movie series
This is something everyone should experience at least
a few times. Watching a movie you love outdoors changes
your viewing experience and really creates the summer
atmosphere you crave.
Whether the movie is new or old, sitting on the grass
watching the classics or contemporary flicks is a ball. They’re
popping up all over the boroughs more often, and many are
free (thanks to local elected officials) so keep your eye out for
them.
Six Flags Great Adventure
Can’t afford to go to Disney this year? Six Flags is
more than a suitable alternative. A bit on the pricier
side, there are always coupons and deals to be had,
especially with large groups.
If you have a stomach made of steel, Great
Adventure has some of the most intense roller
coasters in the country, including Kingda Ka,
Nitro, El Toro, Bizarro and the new 4D ride the
Joker. The presentation at Disney or Universal
is incomparable but the true thrill seeker
loves it here and it is a must each summer.
Citi Field and
Yankee Stadium
Buy me some peanuts and
Crackerjacks! Baseball has become
more than just watching the game, for
better or worse, as there are tons of
things to do in these new parks. Citi
Field offers some of the best cuisine at
any sporting arena/field/stadium from
chicken and waffles to Shake Shack.
The casual fan can head behind center
field, and eat, drink and hang out with a
large group of pals to catch up.
Yankee Stadium doesn’t have the
charm of its predecessor but it has
the amenities of a fancy hotel. And if
you’re a diehard fan, you can watch
the Yankees win game after game or
continue a long suffering existence
as a Mets fan (this writer chose the
latter.)
