HOW TO SAVE ON TECH GEAR FOR COLLEGE Fitbit Smart watches are still in their infancy. People like them but not the price. If you’re interested in a watch that does more than tell time, such as stay fit, the Fitbit is the perfect alternative. It’s cheaper than Apple and Samsung products, and the company offers both low and high end products, based on what you want in the watch. The lower end will help you get your exercise on as it tracks workouts, heart rate, distance, calories burned, floors climbed, active minutes, steps and more. It also provides statistics to your computer and many smartphones. If you want a watch that helps you stay healthy, this is the perfect deal. Tablets/E-Readers There’s no denying that the iPad is a widely popular product and for good reason. It’s a solid tablet with a trusted name. It’s worth the high price, but if you can’t swing the latest model, you could always get the first model iPad Mini for significantly less. If it’s not an option, fear not because you can still find a good deal. If you want the tablet experience to play games, watch movies and read books, Amazon’s Kindle Fire is a safe and inexpensive bet. If the screen strains the eyes when studying for school or catching up on reading material, a regular Kindle will do. And it’s your cheapest option. In addition, you can purchase expensive books on the cheap digitally. Netflix and Hulu Don’t minimize the importance of relaxing during term papers and exams. You’ll need some form of escape. With cable likely not an option for you (and pricey if it is) Netflix is the perfect investment, a relatively inexpensive streaming service that allows you to share your account with friends or family. If you are feeling nostalgic and want to reminisce, you could watch an ever-growing catalogue of older television shows or movies. Even better, these services create new content with quality on par or better than anything you’ll find on network television. There are tons of devices through which you could receive the service, so that won’t be a problem. MP3 players Smartphones are like Swiss Army knives. They do everything. However, some phones don’t offer enough memory if you haven’t subscribed to a cloud-based system.. Even if you have, battery life is always a problem. So you may want to consider a separate device to play your music. New iPod models are very powerful, since they’re like iPhones without the phone calls. But they’re pretty expensive. If you already have a smartphone, buying a top-of-the-line iPod seems like overkill. Head over to eBay and buy an older, used model for cheap. Or buy an affordable MP3 player that you can find on several sites, including Amazon.
