Six great
ice-breakers
to keep in
your back
pocket
BY MEAGHAN MCGOLDRICK
Just because freshman orientation is
long over, doesn’t mean that you’re
done with ice-breakers. Not so long
as you’re in college. Whether you’re
planning on working summers as an
orientation leader, or simply moving into
a new residence hall next semester, it’s always
worth it to have a few good ice breakers under
your belt. Here are just some of the many ice-breakers
we here at Aspire have come across.
Would You Rather:
Another fairly simple one, but, you can tell a lot about another
person by seeing which lesser of two evils they would choose if
they had to. Of course, the choices don’t always have to be bad
– though, this ice breaker is perhaps most fun when the stakes
are high. You can always ask your guests which musical act or
movie they prefer (if you’re daring, you can even go the political
route). Either way, it’s sure to break the ice with a group, no
matter the size.
Two Truths and a Lie:
This may sound like the sketchiest possible way to get to know
someone, but, trust us, it’s likely the most telling icebreaker – and really
allows you to get to know the other person. And it’s simple, too. Come
up with two truths about yourself, couple them with one lie, and see
if others can guess which one is the, dare we say, alternative fact. It’ll
have your guests guessing – and, if you play your cards right, laughing.
