Why 2017 may have
been the best year in
gaming
RBY JAIME DEJESUS egardless of when you grew up, whether
during the Atari years or the Xbox 360
era, there have been many years that
could be considered a golden age of
gaming. Although many look back to
the 1990s as the industry’s pinnacle, I’d
argue that this year may have been its best yet.
Here are some examples why.
PRICES
$60 for a video game can be viewed as pretty
pricey, especially with your many expenses. But
think about it. Most games back in 1990 were
$60. Sometimes, more. If you take infl ation into
account, video games are one of the few sources of
entertainment that have stayed at the same price.
A movie ticket is a lot more expensive today
than it was in 1990. But the cost of gaming has
stayed the same. Add the fact that these games
are a lot more elaborate and contain so much
more content. Some genres can have you playing a
game up to 100 hours just to complete it -- certainly
worth your money.
And if you’re a patient gamer, you’re in better
luck. Between Amazon discounts, used games and
Black Friday deals, you can get top notch games for
just $20, sometimes less.
Casual gamers are in luck too. Most smartphone
games, though they may lack depth at times, are
free. You can’t get much better than that.
