VR ISN’T DEAD
I understand that VR is at a standstill. It can
be easily thought of as a gimmick that will go
away, much like 3D television. But, I urge you not
to give up on it yet. There has been a decent fi rst
step in what is expected to be a long road before
it’s perfected. I say this because the potential is
tremendous. For the fi rst time in years, gamers
were experiencing something genuinely diff erent.
There’s only so many ways you can enhance
graphics.
The new devices, albeit not enough, made you
feel like you were inside a new world. Horror games
had you in fear. Star Wars demos may have gotten
you dizzy, but your younger self was grinning
ear to ear fl ying around space. There are still
adjustments that need to be made. The medium
needs to be less cumbersome. It needs to have
more experiences, but in time, I believe it will have
a place for all gamers.
SONY’S CONTINUED
DOMINANCE
After losing the console war to XBOX 360 during
the last cycle, PlayStation 4 has brought Sony back
to its place as number one, which surprised many
fans of gaming.
How did this happen? The company focused on
games and games alone, unlike Microsoft, which
tried to be broader and focus on entertainment as
well.
This year, Sony continued churning out great
exclusives such as “Horizon Zero Dawn,” “MLB
THE SHOW 17” and “Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.”
Having such great titles only for PS4 really showed
its strength this past year. There’s more on the
way in 2018. And if you were patient, you’re in
luck as the system is pretty aff ordable given its
competition.
