Its Brooklyn location, rooted on Union Streeteet in Cobble Hill, serves up southernstyle meats and draft brews in a retro setting that is sure to have just about anybody coming back for seconds (and even thirds and fourths). The chain’s barbecue, which was fi rst born in 1983, is nationally acclaimed. So, it’s no surprise that its food and sauces continue to take home bragging rights with its Brooklyn location, which fi rst opened in June 2013. Since then, it’s been serving up fan-favorites from the BBQ Chili Nachos (loaded with pulled pork, A.K. chili, house queso, picked onion, jalapeños, tomato and chipotle crema) to the Dino Poutine (hand-cut fries smothered in beef gravy, house pimento cheese, pulled pork, pickled jalapeno and crispy belly cracklings) to their signature pit plates, available in pork, brisket and “bbq half bird.” They also serve up “custom ‘cue,” making Dinosaur the one to beat for barbecue boroughwide. BEST BREAKFAST TOM’S RESTAURANT 2880 Broadway (212) 864-6137 Known for its frequent cameos in the hit television series, “Seinfeld,” Tom’s Restaurant in Park Slope has also taken home many an honor for its humbly extensive breakfast menu. Renowned in the past as boasting “Brooklyn’s most endearing breakfast,” Tom’s Restaurant does it well, and it does it all day. From the “Omelette Extravaganza” section of its menu to its classic breakfast wares, there’s something for everyone at Tom’s, leaving Brooklynites no reason to wonder why it was voted best breakfast in the borough. The eatery, which first opened in 2008, is renowned as the most popular place in the borough to grab brunch – and its menu is reflective of its bragging rights. The small but lovable restaurant serves up fan-favorites like its Pecan Pie French Toast (doused in bourbon, molasses and toasted pecans) to its Eggs Huntington (a buttermilk biscuit topped with poached eggs, Benton’s country ham and hollandaise). Plus, it’s inventive takes on Bloody Mary’s are to die for. Serving the Williamsburg community since May 2014, this southerninspired café and restaurant prides itself on both its comfort food and its feeling of home. Its space reflects a heritage that spans generations (its founders from the south themselves), while also serving up fun and exciting Cajun cuisine like “Chicken-Fried” Chicken, Shrimp and Grits, and of course, everyone’s favorite Chicken Pot Pie. Couple that with starters like Deviled Eggs and Fried Green Tomatoes, and you’ve got the best Cajun meal in all the borough. Brooklyn says so. Gloria’s – a colorful cornerstone at home on Nostrand Avenue – has made a name for itself crafting Caribbean classics. It’s extensive menu boasts not just a hearty amount of critically acclaimed starters, but it is also home to some of the most inventive takes on classic Chinese dishes (like, general tso’s chicken and everyone’s favorite, dumplings), as well as specialty drinks and desserts. All of it priced reasonably and served beautifully, it’s no wonder why Xin, one of the Ridge’s newest restaurants, takes the cake for best Chinese in the borough. BEST COFFEE SHOP CAFÉ GRUMPY 193 Meserole Avenue (718)349-7623 www.cafegrumpy.com This chic and spacious coffee shop, which first opened in Greenpoint in 2005, has since expanded to include seven other shops or outposts throughout the five boroughs. Streetll, its flagship shop remains a favorite for thirsty Brooklynites with a caffeine craving. An independently owned and operated coffee company, Café Grumpy prides itself on its specialty coffee, which is nurtures from sourcing to roasting and brewing, as well as its ability as a local staple to develop positive relationships with its neighbors who also call Brooklyn home. The team at Café Grumpy also likes to let its brews speak for themselves. That being said, you’ll have to head on over to try a cup of what makes Café Grumpy the best coffee shop in Brooklyn. Hungry Ghost Coffee Bar and Café (as it likes to formally be called) was founded in 2012. Since then, it has expanded to include four locations within the five boroughs. Nevertheless, it’s Prospect Heights shop, at home on Flatbush Avenue, takes the coffee and the cake when it comes to the best coffee shop in the borough for getting work done. The eatery pairs meticulously prepared coffee and delicious desserts with a “get it done” atmosphere that includes work stations, outlets and of course, internet access. Couple that with its exciting menu options, and you have a place you’ll never want to leave (even if you are technically “working”) . BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE XIN 8320 Third Avenue (347) 662-6222 www.xinbrooklyn.com It’s clear to see that Xin – an upscale and high-class Chinese restaurant in the heart of Bay Ridge – takes the cake when it comes to, well, a number of things. While snagging bragging rights for best Chinese restaurant in the borough might seem like the most impressive feat of all, in a fast-paced borough like Brooklyn, picking up the nod for best customer service might actually be more praiseworthy.
