EXPLORE YOUR BORO DON’T WORK FROM HOME By Estelle Pyper @estie_pyper @estiepyper The new year is here, people! Time to ring in 2017 with resolutions to make this your best year yet. Hoping to be more productive this year? Looking to find more time to finish creative projects or collaborate with friends outside of the office? Do you work from home but want an office-like community? Then look no further: we’ve complied a list of great co-working spaces in your own neighborhood to help make 2017 your most productive year to date. “Not to be overshadowed by Manhattan, Queens is a center of innovation,” said Sharon Bajwa, the area manager of Spaces in Long Island City. Co-working spaces are gaining more and more attention internationally as people are constantly looking for new environments where they can work and collaborate outside of their home, especially in urban areas. “There has been a macro shift toward a new way of work,” explained a spokesperson from WeWork in Astoria. “More people Co-working spaces to make 2017 your most productive year yet want to work on the projects they’re passionate about in an energetic environment where others are also working hard to bring their ideas to life.” These spaces provide great resources for entrepreneurs, artists and freelance writers to experience an office-like environment. Most provide meeting rooms and event spaces available to rent out, as well as a common area replete with essentials to keep you going – like coffee! Who knows; the people you meet here may quickly become your own “co-workers” and future collaborators. “Joining a co-working space is about investing in yourself while working alongside a diverse community of creatives, professionals, students and everyone in between,” said Argentina Flores, founder of QNS Collective in western Queens. For affordable memberships – usually at a monthly rate – you, too, can experience the energetic environment of co-working spaces to make your ideas come to life this year. 38 JANUARY 2 0 1 7
