8 JANUARY 6 - JANUARY 12, 2017 BROOKLYN MEDIA GROUP MARINE PARK MAN CHARGED WITH DWI, VEHICULAR MANSLAUGHTER AFTER KILLING 56-YEAR-OLD IN GRAVESEND 68 PRECINCT BLOTTER The 68th Precinct serves Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Fort Hamilton. TAXI DRIVER ATTACKED IN RIDGE: A 38-year-old male taxi driver was attacked and stiffed of his fare when he dropped off a 30-year-old man in Bay Ridge on Saturday, December 31 at around 12:45 a.m. The driver claims he picked up the passenger at 96th Street and Second Avenue in Manhattan when he requested a ride to Fourth Avenue and 86th Street. As the two approached Sixth Avenue and 86th Street, the passenger sprayed the driver in the eyes with an unknown liquid and fled the taxi without paying the $50 fare. GLASS ATTACK: Two unknown men attacked a 37-year-old on the northeast corner of Fort POLICE BEAT Hamilton Parkway and 62nd Street on Tuesday, December 27 at around 11:40 a.m. during an argument. Cops say that one of the suspects struck the victim with a glass bottle on the upper lip, causing a cut. He was transferred to NYU Lutheran Medical Center. No arrests have been made. BAD START TO NEW YEAR: Sometime between Saturday, December 31 at around 7 p.m. and Sunday, January 1 at around 3 a.m., an apartment on Bay Ridge Parkway between Third and Fourth Avenues was burglarized, with the thief breaking into a 35-year-old woman’s home and stealing $50. According to the woman, the rear window by the fire escape was left wide open by the perp and the home had been ransacked. No arrests have been made. The 72nd Precinct serves Sunset Park, Greenwood Heights, Windsor Terrace and South Park Slope. STABBING IN SUNSET PARK: On Tuesday, December 27 at around 4:50 p.m. on the northeast corner of Fifth Avenue and 44th Street at Sunset Park, a 39-year-old man and his 63-year-old female friend were attacked by two male perps. Cops say that one of the men, a 20-year-old man, was both physically and verbally aggressive to the woman. When the male victim intervened, one of the men took out a knife and slashed him multiple times on the lower back and then punched him in the face. Both perps fled southbound on Fifth Avenue on foot. One of the men, a 31-year-old, was caught and arrested on assault charges. The victim sustained multiple lacerations to the left lower back area and was rushed to NYU Lutheran Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition. IN BROAD DAYLIGHT: Two men were arrested for attempting to rob a 34-year-old man on the southwest corner of Fifth Avenue and 43rd Street on Wednesday, December 28 at around 1:18 p.m. The alleged robbers, 39 years old and 41 years old, demanded he give them his money, according to the police. When the victim refused, cops say the men punched him in the face. The victim claimed that he had $6. The men went away empty-handed. When cops arrived, the victim pointed out one of the men; the other was arrested after a brief search. OVER A MICROWAVE: A 37-year-old woman was arrested by cops on assault charges after she attacked a 28-year-old woman over a microwave in her apartment on Monday, January 2 at around 6:45 p.m. According to the police, the victim got into a verbal dispute with the defendant over the appliance. Compiled by Jaime DeJesus BY ANNA SPIVAK [email protected] A 24-year-old Brooklyn man has been arrested on vehicular manslaughter charges after killing a 56-year-old man while allegedly driving his 2015 Infiniti intoxicated on New Year’s Day. According to police, at around 3:17 a.m. on Sunday, January 1, cops responded to the scene at the intersection of Avenue P and West Second Street to find a 2008 Toyota Camry, operated by a 66-year-old man, struck by a 2015 Infiniti, driven by 24-year-old Marine Park resident Peter Michael. Cops say the preliminary investigation revealed that the 66-year-old driver had been traveling westbound on Avenue P in his Camry and was making a left turn onto West Second Street when he was struck by Michael’s Infiniti. Police found a passenger, Abraham Shmailov, 56, of Sheepshead Bay in the back seat of the Camry with trauma to his body and head. EMS responded and transported the 56-year-old to NYU Lutheran Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Both drivers were transported to NYU Lutheran in stable condition, according to police. Michael was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, DWI and a DWAI (violation). COPS SEEK PERPS INVOLVED IN SUNSET PARK AND STATEN ISLAND BURGLARIES The NYPD is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying two men wanted in connection to several burglaries in Sunset Park and Staten Island. On Saturday, October 8 at around 3:40 a.m., the two perps broke into the children’s clothing store Angel’s World, 5502 Fifth Avenue, in Sunset Park, through the rear door. They tried to steal the store’s safe but were unable to and fled the scene. Then on Sunday, October 9 at around 3:48 a.m., the same two men broke into jewelry store Fortune Jewelers, 310 New Dorp Avenue, by breaking a hole in an adjoining wall. Cops say the thieves stole several pieces of jewelry and fled the location inside of a gold-colored sport utility vehicle driven by a third individual. --Jaime DeJesus
