22 FEBRUARY 3 - FEBRUARY 9, 2017 BROOKLYN MEDIA GROUP Photo: tumblr.com DINING OUT Eight sweet spots to stoke your Valentine’s Day sugar rush BY HELEN KLEIN HKLEINBROOKLYNREPORTER.COM Photo courtesy of Little Cupcake Top-notch desserts and a sweet-as-sugar atmosphere add up to a Valentine’s Day treat at Little Cupcake. Looking for a cozy spot to enjoy a Valentine’s dessert? Check out these Brooklyn eateries, all of which serve up a side of romance with their sensational sweets. At Little Cupcake (9102 Third Avenue), cupcakes and miniature cheesecakes that haunt your dreams are just part of the appeal. Atmosphere also counts at this Bay Ridge sweet spot, and the tiny tables and ice cream parlor ambiance add up to romance, big time. Villabate Alba (7001 18th Avenue) is saturated with the old world ambiance of Italy, and its cannoli are, very simply, the best, though a quick perusal of the sparkling glass display cases could tempt even the most cannoli-obsessed to try other options. Stand at the marble counter of this Bensonhurst staple and down espressos, the way they do in Bella Italia, and head home to savor the creamy, out of this world cannoli. The Chocolate Room (two locations – 51 Fi h Avenue and 269 Court Street) has made purveying theobroma cacao, literally the food of the gods, into an art form. Soothing deep brown walls embrace you, and the o erings – from Chocolate Fondue for Two to hot chocolate three ways to Chocolate Covered Strawberries – are a perfect way to cap o an evening of romance. Cocoa Bar (228 Seventh Avenue) is a Park Slope treasure where carefully cra ed chocolate confections from cakes to bonbons e ortlessly speak the language of love. Jacques Torres (66 Water Street) combines some of the best chocolates in New York City with the intimacy of the DUMBO waterfront. Just steps from the Manhattan Bridge, the view may be just as romantic as the intoxicating confectionary that Torres is renowned for. The reputation of Momofuko Milk Bar (382 Metropolitan Avenue) certainly precedes it. It’s also well-earned. The Williamsburg branch of the Momofuko culinary empire carries such Momofuko classics as Crack Pie, Compost Cookies and Cake Tru es. ‘Nu said. The specialty sundaes at Brooklyn Farmacy & Soda Fountain (513 Henry Street) – from Sir Twixalot to Cookie Monster — are endlessly appealing. So too is the atmosphere – the eatery is set in a vintage drugstore. And if the retro look has you gazing back as you stare into your beloved’s eyes, share an Egg Cream so you can both go back in time together. Pie is the main subject at Four & Twenty Blackbirds (439 Third Avenue) where the o erings range from Salted Caramel Apple to Bittersweet Chocolate Pecan. You can settle down in the Gowanus café and indulge or take your artisanal pies to go. You clearly can’t go wrong, either way.
