Their life expectancy is shorter than ours, therefore everything is greater for them. An unspayed feline can become Community a mother when she is only six months old. But, sadly, I know of a five-month-old kitten who gave birth to her son at a veterinarian's office, which meant she was only three months old when a tom cat impregnated her. The vet adopted the new mom Photo courtesy and of Jude her baby.Lassow But happy beginnings Panela needs a loving home. like this do not occur very Photo courtesy Panela needs often. Usually, when the drama of an outdoor cat unfolds, the cats become feral, frightened of humans, which, by all accounts, they should be. *** HELLO FRIENDS...”We are ZanisFurryFriends’ zestful rescued kitties. I am the extremely affectionate, unique-looking spokescat, called Funny Face AKA Spoof! I love lap-sitting, and being held and carried around. I am a domestic short hair/ Oriental Dilute Calico mix, adult, female, medium-size cat. I am house-trained, spayed and current with vaccinations. I am a temporary resident of Zani'sFF and would really love to share my fun self with a loving, responsible family. “I am just so gentle and sweet and would really appreciate the purrfect home with other young cats. I am totally good with cats and would do well as a companion kitty for another. I am so good with older children as I am playful and enjoy a good romp, but not manic. “I have been compared to a ballerina because of my long legs and graceful stride. Maybe an adaptable gazelle would be another word to describe me. I can leap with amazing ease and am very quiet upon landing. “I am a true beauty. Come and meet me, and let me leap into your heart. This could be the beginning a new and beautiful friendship. And remember, I beg like a dog, and love being picked up like a small pooch. And, on the up-side, I get along with dogs, too." Please email: [email protected]. *** OPEN YOUR HEART TO A SENIOR KITTY: Echo, a diluted Tortoiseshell, medium hair, spayed and vaccinated Maine Coon mix, is about 11 years old. Seniors are settled, vetted and looking for a new home with adult love. “She has lived in her current home for nine years, and has resided comfortably with both dogs and cats. Echo is a lap-type kitty, affectionate with her humans. With other pets, she is playful and respectful. She would do best in an adult-only-home and would make a nice companion for either a dog or a cat. “Echo does have some no-touching-zones. Therefore, she would not be comfortable with young children. She is house trained, spayed and current with vaccinations." Please contact: [email protected]. The block that Kane grew up on 88th street near Colonial Road was formally dedicated Tom Kane Way and was even blessed by Reverend Gerard Sauer, the pastor of St. Mel's Church, a former associate pastor at Bay Ridge's St. Patrick's Church and a personal friend. A host of dignitaries were on hand to join Kane's family, friends and associates on this auspicious occasion. City Councilmember Vinnie Gentile -- who ensured the full Council approved the co-naming, wrote in the program, "A lifelong Bay Ridge resident, Tom's tremendous contributions and achievements left an indelible mark on the community he loved so much." Close friend Frankie Marra sang and played "Forever Young" by Bob Dylan. Kane was a big, big Dylan fan! * * * Among the marching groups in the recent 147th annual Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade was the Society of Old Brookynites. In a crypt 40 feet under this towering monument are the remains of 11,500 patriots from the American Revolution, making it the largest burial site of America's first POWs. It warms my heart to see that these almost forgotten veterans may finally receive the national recognition they truly deserve. As a longtime member, publicist, second vice president and now first veep, this columnist has been working closely with Society President George Broadhead, and Past Presidents Frank Spinner, Terry Rosen, Ralph Perfetto and Ron Schweiger to raise civic awareness about this important monument and the sacred site it was erected on. Through the initial efforts of Congressmember Hakeem Jeffries who got a bill passed in the House that was co-sponsored in the Senate by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, the National Park Service held a public meeting this past week in Brooklyn to hear about proposals to make the site a national monument. * * * We have to applaud the clever fund-raising campaign by the Vascular Birthmarks Foundation. Its novel pitch: "Are you up to a President's Day Challenge?" The group is asking everyone who has been affected or who has a family member or friend with a birthmark to step up and support VBF with a donation by February 20, Presidents' Day 2017. VBF is soliciting donations of a Washington ($1), a Lincoln ($5), a Jackson ($20) or a Grant ($50). And just for you Broadway fans, the organization is accepting a Hamilton ($10) because it’s not going to waste its shot at getting you involved! Even though he wasn’t a president, the group would never say no to a Benjamin ($100)! Checks, not U.S. dollars should be sent to the Vascular Birthmarks Foundation, PO Box 106, Latham, NY 12110. To view the outstanding work this foundation does, go to Birthmark.org. I can speak with personal insight; as a result of one of its national VBF seminars I met world-renowned surgeon Dr. Milton Waner. * * * Our hearty congratulations to our new Brooklyn Parks Commissioner Marty Maher.
