P.S. I Love You Day at Bishop Kearney
BROOKLYN
EDUCATION
Each year, students at Bishop Kearney
High School celebrate P.S.
I Love You Day on the second
Friday of February.
This year, the Student Council sponsored
a Dress Down Day. Students
wore purple to encourage positive
attitudes and spread love in an effort
to decrease bullying and promote
mental health awareness.
Bishop Kearney senior Robin Lesser
won second place in the high school division
of the Keep Christ in Christmas
Art Contest sponsored by The Tablet
in collaboration with the Archbishop
John Hughes Council of the Knights of
Columbus.
Over 800 entries were received this
year from students in Brooklyn and
Queens. The winners were honored at
a reception and awards ceremony on
January 24. Congratulations!
Ivonne Paredes, a Brooklyn-based
composer, visited Bishop Kearney
High School and met with Ms. Rege's
Music Appreciation class. She spoke
to students about her career as a composer.
She played recordings of her
works and discussed other influential
contemporary female composers.
Ms. Paredes and the students also
discussed compositional techniques
and the process of writing music for
various instruments. Ms. Paredes
currently works at the Conservatory
of Music at Brooklyn College and for
the non-profit organization Composers
Now.
