Five-year-old DaMouse and fouryear
old Squeaky had the pawfect
marriage. These two rescued cats
knew a good thing when it happened.
Dancing, prancing, running,
playing together, they were in love.
Cleaning, grooming each other,
sleeping curled a up in a ball together,
their bond was purrfect, just like
Bogie 'n Bacall's. She would put her
lips together, stroke his handsome
face, and kiss her fella, long and
hard. He cooed, as his heart melted.
For five years, Mr. and Mrs. Mouse

happened. Their dancing ended.
Panela needs a loving home.
He was lethargic. He lost weight.
Eight-pound Mouse stopped eating,
but his water intake was non-stop.
At the Animal Clinic of Bay Ridge,
Dr. Alexandru tested Mouse and
discovered his liver was shutting
down. Mouse was yellow, his eyes
were yellow, his ears were yellow.
He was jaundiced.
His 17-day stay at the clinic was
stressful for 4 year-old Squeaky. She

When 15-pound, healthy Mouse

down my spine.
She had no memory of this big,
gentle cat, who, not so long ago, was
her hubby. That was five years ago,
and still today, she has the same upsetting
reaction to her Mouse.

What an absolute terrific
turnout for the street
co-naming ceremonies in
honor of the late, great
Tom Kane. The block that
Kane grew up on 88th
street near Colonial Road
was formally dedicated
Tom Kane Way and was
even blessed by Reverend
Gerard Sauer, the pastor of
St. Mel's Church, a former associate
pastor at Bay Ridge's St.
Patrick's Church and a personal
friend.
A host of dignitaries were on hand to join
Kane's family, friends and associates on this
auspicious occasion. City Councilmember
Vinnie Gentile -- who ensured the full Council
approved the co-naming, wrote in the program,
"A lifelong Bay Ridge resident, Tom's
tremendous contributions and achievements
left an indelible mark on the community he
loved so much."
Close friend Frankie Marra sang and
played "Forever Young" by Bob Dylan. Kane
was a big, big Dylan fan!
