24 APRIL 21 – APRIL 27, 2017 BROOKLYN MEDIA GROUP Connection “We, the volunteers of Itty Bitty Kitty NY, a no-kill, all volunteer, TNVR and animal rescue organization based in Bay Ridge, would like to thank Jude, the director of Muffin's Pet Connection, www.muffins.org, for her tireless efforts in promoting our adoptable kitties, during these many months. “We also thank our Bay Ridge residents who have been instrumental in encouraging volunteers and potential adopters to adopt, foster, and donate food, litter, supplies and monetary funds toward our needy kitties. “Twenty cats of all ages currently reside in our small shelter. Itty Bitty Kitty’s immediate need is for money to cover medical costs, food and supplies. Next, we need to find a new place to continue to house these kittens and cats while we tend to any medical issues and find them forever homes. Please consider helping Itty Bitty Kitty continue its mission of caring for and finding homes for these wonderful animals. “DOUBLE THE FUN...DOUBLE THE LOVE...DOUBLE THE PURRS: Urgent call for fosters and adopters. Please come meet Skittles and Twizzler, who are as sweet as candy, but they are so shell-shocked to be in a cage. “They were rescued from a sickly, elderly woman, who is breathing on an oxygen tank and therefore cannot take care of them. They are about three years old, bonded, fixed, vaccinated, tested negative for feline AIDS and leukemia, and all blood work has been done. They are ready to go into a responsible home. “We would love for them to be adopted together. After having such a dramatic experience of living in a loving, caring, indoor home for a year, then suddenly dumped outdoors, we do not want to separate them. “If you are interested in adopting Skittles and Twizzler together, please contact George at 917-889-5896, or email [email protected]. An adoption fee, a hard cat carrier and a completed adoption form are required in order to adopt them. Mention that you read about them in Jude's column.” *** Stevie was adopted by a lovely couple named Lenny and Patty who live in Bay Ridge. Lenny is a retired baker and while he is whisking the batter, Stevie sits on the chair patiently waiting for him to give him a taste of cookie dough. Once he gets a taste of the cookie dough from Lenny's finger, Stevie runs around the apartment happily. Lenny and Patty love Stevie like a son, and have jokingly stated they are getting Stevie a chef's hat and a baker's apron to wear around the house. *** ALERT — MONARCH BUTTERFLY numbers decline rapidly! Their numbers have dropped by 27 percent since last year, and more than 80 percent since the 1990s. Last March, due to extreme storms, millions of monarch butterflies were killed in the mountains of Mexico, where these magnificent butterflies migrate in the winter. Monarch butterflies travel up to 3,000 miles each fall to their wintering site in central Mexico. Pesticides kill milkweed plants which are the monarch caterpillars’ only food.
