The winter storm — dubbed
the "bomb cyclone" or Winter
Storm Grayson — that pummeled
the East Coast just days after
the New Year didn't spare Bay Ridge.
Though the storm has passed, it
has left plenty of mess in its wake,
from unkempt crosswalks to even
worse than usual R train service.
All in all, the storm dumped over
seven inches of snow on the Ridge,
compared to a whopping 12 inches
in neighborhoods like Midwood
and East Flatbush, according to
the National Weather Service. The

blizzard-like conditions prompted
Governor Andrew Cuomo to declare
a State of Emergency for the city
and came complete with snow, high
winds and bitter cold — the latter two
still lingering as the 'hood recoups.
Citywide, all schools were closed
on Thursday, January 4 — the day the
storm hit — with Mayor Bill de Blasio
opening public schools for Friday. Locally,
private schools like St. Anselm
Catholic Academy and Xaverian High
School continued their closures on
Friday.
