44 MAY 12 – MAY 18, 2017 BROOKLYN MEDIA GROUP A glimpse back into Norwegian Parade history As Bay Ridge gears up for the 65th annual Norwegian Constitution Day Parade –slated for Sunday, May 21 – this paper took a look back through its archives at parades passed. Chock full of culture, the parade – and annual celebration of the 17th of May – is a neighborhood staple, which pays homage to the overwhelming Norwegian population that once made Bay Ridge home. The event will step off at the corner of 80th Street and Third Avenue, with marchers assembling beforehand at the corners of 84th and 85th Streets, at 1:30 p.m., rain or shine. The celebration will then make its way up to Fifth Avenue (turning right on Third at Bay Ridge Avenue) and then over to 67th Street, where marchers will make a right and march along Leif Ericson Park up to the reviewing stand between Sixth and Seventh Avenues.
