46 MAY 12 – MAY 18, 2017 BROOKLYN MEDIA GROUP BROOKLYN EDUCATION Adelphi drama society goes BY JULIETTE PICCINI TUGANDER "Back to the '80s" in musical Members of Adelphi Academy of Brooklyn’s Adelphian Masquers Drama Society & Theater Arts Program, in association with the Adelphian Players Community Theater Organization and through special arrangement with Music Theatre International, took the stage for three sold-out performances of “Back to the ‘80s … The Totally Awesome Musical!” On March 10-12, in the Academy’s John Lockwood Auditorium Theatre, Adelphi students and faculty members portrayed memorable characters surrounded by the nostalgia of the ‘80s. The show is set in William Ocean High School and features an older Corey Palmer (voiced by the show’s producer and Adelphi’s Director of Operations Mr. Albert C. Corhan) refl ecting on his high school experiences during the ‘80s. He chronicles the romantic misadventures of young Corey, portrayed by Upper School student Joshua Korsunsky, and his rivalry with the coolest kid in school, Michael Feldman (Middle Schooler Eric Furman), as they each attempt to win the heart of Ti any Houston (Upper School student Nicole Fabian). Among the show’s highlights were performances by the entire cast of “Kids in America,” “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now,” “Love Shack” and “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life.” Adelphi’s Lead Teacher and Art Instructor Ms. Nikki Fregara, who also served as one of the show’s directors, played the role of William Ocean High’s technology-obsessed school nerd Feargal McFerrin III. Other cast members included Upper School students Luke Gemma and Ania John, who portrayed William Ocean faculty members Steven Cocker and Sheena Brannigan. Corey Jr.’s best friends Alice and Kirk were portrayed by Upper Schooler Sakara Carter and Middle Schooler Isaac Nasimov. Adelphi’s Head of School Ms. Iphigenia Romanos was proud of the performance. Mr. Corhan was the producer, and Adelphi alumnus Arthur Furman ’16 returned as assistant director. * * * Xaverian students recently had the opportunity to visit Judge Vincent Del Giudice ‘72. The students, who are members of Mr. Berardi’s Law and Government class, were able to sit in the jury box and at the judge's bench. They heard witness testimony and listened to the closing arguments of both the prosecution and defense. * * * Congratulations to the St. Ephrem eighth grade boys basketball team! They brought home the championship trophy a er competing in the annual BCBA championship game. The boys beat Holy Name with a 53-48 win. The game was held on March 26 in the Holy Angels Academy gym.
