Mayor de Blasio has ful lled an incredible
relatively weak economic growth in
2018. Mr. Trump’s promises have no
value.
The plan is based on supply side
economics which assumes that the
tax revenue lost from tax cuts will get
replaced by new taxes generated from
the economic growth. This is a failed
plan that President Reagan tried in
the ‘80s.
President Reagan then had to

David Stockman, the White House
budget director for President Reagan,
acknowledges that the GOP tax and
budget plan of the ‘80s increased our
national debt.
It is ridiculous to expect that economic
growth will magically replace
tax revenue when you cut and spend.
Stockman said, the “debt explosion
resulted not from big spending by
the Democrats, but instead by the
Republican Party’s embrace ... of the
insidious doctrine that deficits don’t
matter if they result from tax cuts.”
Mr. Trump wants you to enjoy the
“Insidious Embrace II” which he calls
a “beautiful Christmas present.” No
thank you, Ebenezer Trump, I would
rather have a lump of coal.
The Tax Policy Center predicts
national debt will be increased by an
additional $7 trillion over the next 10
years. An increase in the national debt
will hamper economic growth in the
long run and the interest payment on
the national debt will eat up more of
the federal budget.

tax. This “great” tax plan eliminates

itemized deductions for state and
local income taxes, and doubles the
standard deduction but eliminates
personal exemptions while lowering
corporate tax rates from 35 to 20 percent.
The plan reduces the current
seven tax brackets to four with a 39.5
percent rate still reserved for high
earners.
Although the other tax rates are
slightly lower, the elimination of
itemized deductions will devastate
more than 40 million people who
live in high-tax states like New York.

earners to help corporations and
wealthy individuals.
The plan helps the wealthy more
than the middle class. Once all the
deductions and exemptions are accounted
for, the lowest earners get a
tax break of 0.5 to 0.2 percent while
the top one percent of earners get an
8.5 percent tax break.
The Trump tax plan is just tired old
supply-side economics which has been
tried and which has failed. The plan
doesn’t forget the top one percent of
wealthy Americans because elimination
of the estate tax will save them $17
billion in taxes.
The only way to stop this insanity
from being revisited upon America
is to say, “No.” Tell elected representatives
at every level of government that
this this tired and failed theory is not a
plan for working New Yorkers.

Blasio is really not serious about
following through on his campaign
promises to assure the NYPD scrupulously honors
individual citizens civil rights.
He stated that the “new administration promised
change but instead we get more of the same.”
That is not true. The number of arrests for low-level
marijuana possession
has dropped and NYPD
policy is not to force a
suspect to display small
amounts of pot in order
to make an arrest.
Governor Cuomo has
proposed decriminalizing
possession of 15
grams or less of pot whether hidden or in plain view,
which would take this controversy and its attendant
political baggage off the table. It would be nice to let
police offi cers perform their duties instead of being
pawns in a political chess game.
Mayor de Blasio has fulfi lled an incredible amount
of his promises in a very short time. He has imposed
the extra protection of an inspector general for the
NYPD and signed off on the laws passed by the City
Council which may leave police offi cers subject to
lawsuits for negligent performance of their duties.
He has provided universal pre K without a tax
increase. He is settling the outstanding municipal
worker contracts neglected by Mike Bloomberg for
the next mayor to handle. He is championing Vision
Zero to reduce traffi c fatalities to zero. It is unfair
to question his commitment to his ideals or to the
fulfi llment of his promises.
The City Council will pass 11 laws and four resolutions
to create a Vision Zero environment for our
streets. The new laws provide a lower speed limit for
city streets and enhanced penalties for reckless drivers.
The state legislature must approve the changes.
We also need the state legislature to provide a
reasonable number of speed cameras to enforce the
new laws. Let us hope that our legislators will work
together as a group to see that these changes and
improvements are made quickly.

We are seeing more and more homes in Dyker
Heights enclosed in stainless steel bars on all
fl oors and heavy stainless steel security doors.
I fi nd this trend extremely disturbing. The community
remains as safe as ever. The new protections
seem to appear only on recently purchased
homes and refl ect a different cultural view on
security. Homes like this have existed in great
numbers in the Sunset Park area for many
years and are really not positive additions to
any community.
The homes themselves look horrible and,
worse yet, they make the whole area around
them appear trashy. And, frankly, instead of offering
additional security protection, they more
than likely attract unwanted attention from potential
burglars who fi gure these homes contain
the greatest number of valuables.
Community outreach by civic and government
groups as well as elected offi cials explaining
the disadvantages of the heavy security from
both an aesthetic as well as security perspective
is necessary, or we will be confronted with large
sections of our community looking like safety
deposit box holding cells.

A NOT SO FUNNY CLOWN
Former mayoral candidate Bo
Dietl was recently recorded
in a telephone conversation
cursing Curtis Sliwa out for calling
him a clown for his performance in
a televised debate.
I know how Curtis feels. Three
weeks ago, I called Dietl a clown in
this column for his performance in the
first debate and sure enough he called
me and spent 10 minutes cursing at
me, telling me how powerful and successful
he has become, told me he was
worth $25 million, as if I cared, and all
sorts of boorish things that should not
be repeated.
I do not know why Dietl chose to run
for mayor and spend a million-plus
dollars to get so few votes. That being
said, there is no reason to be crude and
ignorant in your approach to candidacy.
I sincerely hope he learned from
his embarrassing results and never
enters the political arena as a candidate
again.
* * *
The government is considering
asking for the death penalty upon the
conviction of Sayfullo Saipov for killing
eight and seriously injuring many
more in a terrorist attack in lower
Manhattan. I strongly hope it does.
For starters, the crime of terrorism
is so severe that anything less than
the death penalty will fail to provide
a proper level of justice for the victims
and their families.
It also is worth noting that terrorists
do not rehabilitate. They look for
others to kill and no employee of any
institution in which a terrorist is sent
will be safe.
Finally, the United States needs
to send a message throughout the
world that an element in our efforts
to prevent acts of terrorism will be
the ultimate elimination of terrorists.
I would not call American justice soft,
but I would maintain that those who
advocate for the destruction of governments
and their citizens need to
be sent the strongest of messages. The
death penalty for terrorists sends the
strongest message.
* * *
The NYPD did an amazing job the
afternoon of the attack. The terrorist
chose 3 p.m. for his monstrous deed.
That is on or about the time of the
police tour change. There were police
coming into work and others ready to
call it a day.
Many officers were held over
and sent to locations where there
were Trick or Treaters to provide a
measure of security for the children
and their parents. On 10th Avenue
in Dyker Heights, there was a patrol
car with two officers standing outside
interacting with literally a hundred
kids and parents. Although it was a
tense afternoon for the police, these
two officers looked perfectly at home
chatting with the kids and adults.
Senator Golden told me that the
NYPD Intelligence Division contacted
him shortly after 3 p.m. to discuss his
very large Halloween event in Owls
Head Park which was just getting
underway. They wanted to tell him
that they planned to send additional
officers to the park to insure the safety
of all those attending. The senator said
that many additional officers came into
the park, which made the thousands
in attendance feel very safe.
* * *
Last week, between the terrorist
incident in New York and the shooting
in Texas, was a horrific week for many
families. I wish to offer my prayers and
condolences to the victims and their
families. The acts are senseless. But
in keeping those that have suffered
so much in our prayers and thoughts,
we can help ease the pain a bit.
