8 NOVEMBER 25 - DECEMBER 1, 2016 BROOKLYN MEDIA GROUP POLICE BEAT 68 PRECINCT BLOTTER 72 PRECINCT BLOTTER 62 PRECINCT BLOTTER The 68th Precinct serves Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights and Fort Hamilton. EMPTY-HANDED ROBBER: A 26-year-old man was the victim of an attempted robbery on Thursday, November 17 at around 6:50 p.m. While he was walking towards Fifth Avenue and 81st Street, cops say, an unknown perp, described by the victim as 5 ’10”, ran up to him, placed him in a chokehold from behind and demanded money. The victim was able to break free and ran northbound on Sixth Avenue. The crook, who came up empty-handed, followed the man for a short distance before fleeing westbound on 80th Street. LOCK YOUR DOORS: A 21-year-old woman had her wallet containing $500, credit and debit cards, and a driver’s license stolen from her parked car on Sunday, November 13. The victim left the car near 71st Street and 11th Avenue at around 6 p.m. When she returned shortly after, she discovered that someone had opened the car, which had been left unlocked by the victim, and lifted her possessions. No arrests have been made. MORE TIRES AND RIMS STOLEN: A crook stole four rims and tires from a vehicle belonging to a 58-year-old man who had parked it on the northeast corner of Wakeman Place and Sedgwick Place on Wednesday, November 16 at around 8 p.m. When he returned the following morning at around 8:45 a.m., he discovered the rims and tires, worth around $3,610, had been taken. No arrests have been made. The 62nd Precinct serves Bensonhurst, Bath Beach and Gravesend. SHED SHOCK: According to police, at around 5 p.m. on Saturday, November 19, an unidentified perp broke into a 27-year-old man’s shed on 68th Street near Bay Parkway and took a bicycle, a helmet and a speedometer. Cops say the perp broke in by ripping off the shed’s lock. SHARP SHOPPER: A 53-year-old woman was attacked while shopping near 86th and Bay 19th Streets on Sunday, November 20 at around 11:45 a.m. According to police, a 68-year-old woman threw a glass cup at the 53-year-old’s face, hitting her in the left cheek. Cops report that the two women were strangers and it is unknown what caused the 68-year-old to throw the cup. SCARY SATURDAY MORNING: According to police, a 24-year-old Hispanic man hit a 53-year-old Hispanic man with a chair on Saturday morning, November 19, took $500 in cash from him and fled. Cops say the incident happened at around 6:10 a.m. near Kings Highway and West Ninth Street and the 53-yearold sustained a cut to the nose and bruising on his forehead as a result of the blow. The 72nd Precinct serves Sunset Park, Greenwood Heights, Windsor Terrace and South Park Slope. MOTHER AND SON ATTACKED: Two men are wanted for assaulting a 14-year-old boy and his 42-year-old mother while they were walking on the northeast corner of Fifth Avenue and 53rd Street on November 16 at around 5:20 p.m. According to the police, the mother and son were walking after eating pizza when a known male perp and an unknown male perp started to throw bottles at them. Then one of the perps took out a knife and told them to come over to them. The victims fled and no injuries were reported. No arrests have been made. MAN ARRESTED FOR ASSAULTING 79-YEAR-OLD: A 33-year-old man was arrested on assault charges for attacking a 79-year-old man on Thursday, November 17 at around 9:30 a.m. According to police reports, the incident occurred inside an apartment at Fifth Avenue and 62nd Street, where the victim’s neighbor was arguing with him. He pushed him, cops say, causing the victim to fall back into the doorway, striking his lower back. A suspect was arrested shortly after. BIG JEWELRY ROBBERY: A burglar got away with around $3,650 worth of jewelry after breaking into an apartment at Seventh Avenue and 39th Street on Thursday, November 17. The victim, a 37-year-old woman, left her place at around 12:10 p.m., according to the police. While she was gone, the unknown perp entered the main entrance of the building and proceeded to the third floor, forcibly entered the apartment and stole the bling, including a $2,000 diamond ring and a $500 gold necklace. No arrests have been made. COPS SEEK PAIR WHO SKIMMED ATMS INSIDE NEW YORK METHODIST, OTHER MEDICAL CENTERS Cops are looking to identify a pair of suspects who allegedly installed skimming devices in ATMs inside hospitals across the city – including Brooklyn’s own New York Methodist Hospital on Sixth Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues. According to police, the devices were installed between Wednesday, August 24 and Tuesday, November 1 at the following hospitals and medical centers: New York Methodist Hospital, Memorial Sloan Kettering, New York Presbyterian Hospital and Jamaica Hospital. Police say the duo used the devices to obtain victims’ personal information, which they then used to make duplicate cards and make several unauthorized cash withdrawals. The first perp is alleged to be 36-year-old Atanasiu Bogdan-Valentin, who is described by cops as having brown hair and brown eyes. The second, still unidentified perp is an adult male with a mustache, who was last seen wearing a green hat, green shirt, green jacket and dark framed glasses.
