8 C RY D E R P O I N T JUNE Meet the Candidates Five Candidates for Four Seats – Every Vote Counts! ABY JILL DAVIS s most of you know, although it warrants repeating, we must reach a quorum in order for there to be an election. A quorum is achieved when at least 51% of total shares in the cooperative are voted. We squeaked by last year with 52.7% of shares voted, and we are hoping to have much greater participation this year. There are five candidates vying for the four seats that are up for election this year. All four incumbent Board members who are eligible to run have decided to do so again. In alphabetical order, they are: Minna Cohen, Richard Greenbaum, Jason Kober and John Naegele. In addition, one new candidate, Joel Haravay, is throwing his hat into the ring. If we achieve a quorum, those who are elected will serve a twoyear term. Following are reprints of each candidate’s resume along with a photo 8 CRYDER POINT COURIER | JUNE 2017 | WWW.QUEENSCOURIER.COM so that you can put a face to the name. These resumes are necessarily brief, but we hope they give you an idea of what each candidate’s goals and perspectives are. In addition, to help you make the most informed decision, we will be holding a Candidates’ Night on Thursday, June 8, during which each candidate will speak for a few minutes and field questions from the audience. Please join us poolside for this important forum. Please be sure to attend the Annual Shareholders’ Meeting on Thursday, June 22. We’re pleased that the meeting will be held at the Bay Terrace Jewish Center (which is far cooler and more comfortable than last year’s meeting at the public school!). If you cannot attend in person, please complete your proxy and have someone submit it for you, and encourage your neighbors to do so as well. Every vote counts! NAME: JOEL HARAVAY BUILDING/APARTMENT #21/4D OCCUPATION: Educator • Does your occupation require extensive travel? No • Do you spend more than one (1) month a year away? No • Are you available for at least ten (10) of the twelve (12) monthly evening meetings? Yes • How many years have you been a Cryder Point Shareholder? 21 • Are you currently a resident? Yes Please explain why you are seeking election to the Board of Directors. I’ve had the privilege to live here for 21 years and my wife has been a resident most of her life. Cryder Point is a very unique place. With my background and skillset I feel that I can be helpful in enhancing the quality of life for our residents. Please list any interests, talent, education or experience you possess that you feel would serve as an asset to the Cryder Point Owners’ Corp. Board of Directors. I have worked in education for thirty seven years from grade school to graduate school as a teacher and administrator. In this time I have been an effective communicator with adults and children from very different backgrounds. I have also coached swimming and was a head beach and pool lifeguard. In this capacity I have a very clear understanding of how to run and maintain pools. We have been pool members each year. As a homeowner for many years in Jericho, I have a good understanding of landscaping and general building maintenance. What changes would you like to see made at Cryder Point, and why? I think that the present board has done an outstanding job in doing the necessary capitol improvements to maintain our property. When we are in a financial position to do so, I would like to see aesthetic improvements in our halls and elevators.
