16 C R Y D E R P O I N T NOVEMBER OOuutt & A Abboouutt Election Day is Tuesday, November 8 (don’t forget to vote!). And of course Thanksgiving comes up on the 24th (only like the best holiday ever!). But let’s not forget Veteran’s Day, Friday, November 11. I think most of us tend to forget about this day except for all of the Veteran’s Day sales going on. That’s unfortunate, because it really is about honoring our veterans. The holiday originated on November 11 at 11:11, 1921, when the U.S., France and England each buried an unknown soldier in honor of those who died in World RESTAURANT & CATERING 16 CRYDER POINT COURIER | NOVEMBER 2016 | WWW.QUEENSCOURIER.COM War I. The time and day were chosen because ghting in WWI ceased in 1918 on November 11 at 11:11, and the holiday was called Armistice Day. President Eisenhower changed it in 1954 to recognize those who served and died from all wars. In keeping with this tradition, work stops on this day and time each year for a moment of silence. On behalf of all civilians out here, let me say thank you to all of you who have served our country so bravely. Thanksgiving Dinner at Marbella Thursday, November 24 Marbella Restaurant 220-33 Northern Blvd., Bayside 718-423-0100 www.marbella-restaurant.com Lots of local restaurants will be serving Thanksgiving dinners, but I’m calling out Marbella because it would never occur to me to go to a Spanish restaurant on Turkey Day. Turns out Marbella’s going all-American this year with a three-course dinner that starts with your choice of an appetizer followed by roast turkey with chestnut stuf ng, veggies, cranberry sauce and sweet potatoes. If you have room, nish with apple or pumpkin pie. You can’t get much more down-home than that! The prix- xe meal is $30.95 per person for adults and $18.95 for kids. He’s on tour now with his show “Fully Dressed,” which should come as a relief to everyone in the audience (he talks about food a lot!). “I’m so thrilled to be eating my way across America again…. Oh, wait, I’m doing shows too?” said a bewildered Gaf gan. Tickets range from $39.50-$99.50.
