I could not just leave him to die, so I rushed him to the emergency vet. He had to go on oxygen for a collapsed lung and needs expensive surgery for broken bones on his hip. Snapple is lucky to be alive but he has a long road to recovery ahead. “We are hoping to take him home this week, at which point he will need crate rest, physical therapy, and hopefully a new forever home once he is better. Thank you and God Bless! *** The legend of The Virgin Mary, Jesus the tabby cat. This legend takes us back to the manger in Bethlehem shortly after the Virgin Mary had given birth to Jesus. Mary laid her newborn baby to rest in a manger. She was desperate to get some sleep in order to restore her strength. Baby boy Jesus was not at all too pleased with his first crib. The hay in the manger was rough and irritated his tender skin. The racket from the animals close by kept him awake. The baby Jesus started crying Lassow as one would expect under the circumstances. A stray cat happened to wander by. The cat paused at the sound of the baby crying. Instinctively, the cat jumped into the manger and settled down next to Jesus. Jesus peacefully fell fast asleep snuggled up against the soft and warm cat. In loving gratitude, Mary stroked the forehead of the cat. As she did, the cat received the mark of Mary. The M would for all eternity be a reminder of Mary’s gratitude of the lovely act of kindness. How this legend came about is uncertain. If we read the Bible, we find that not once is there a reference to cats. Our beloved feline friend is totally absent in the Holy Scripture. *** HEY JUDE: “I am looking for a new home for my cat. Buttercup is a very friendly, sweet cat. She is a 10-year-old female and comes from a very loving home. She has her shots and has been spayed. We can no longer keep her due to the owners’ health issues. We would love to see her go to a nice home with people who will love her.” Contact [email protected]. The block that Kane grew up on 88th street near Colonial Road was formally dedicated Tom Kane Way and was even blessed by Reverend Gerard Sauer, the pastor of St. Mel's Church, a former associate pastor at Bay Ridge's St. Patrick's Church and a personal friend. A host of dignitaries were on hand to join Kane's family, friends and associates on this auspicious occasion. City Councilmember Vinnie Gentile -- who ensured the full Council approved the co-naming, wrote in the program, "A lifelong Bay Ridge resident, Tom's tremendous contributions and achievements left an indelible mark on the community he loved so much." Close friend Frankie Marra sang and played "Forever Young" by Bob Dylan. City Councilmember  Vinnie Gentile  and daily R line commuter, former Councilmember  Sal Albanese,  may find it hard to believe, but the  good news is the R is NOT the worst in the system. However, it is far from the best! \ According to NYPIRG’s Straphangers’ Campaign annual ratings of 20 MTA subway lines, a ride on the R train is only worth $1.75 and the N line only five cents more! The R line is tied for 11th place in the Straphangers’ Campaign rankings.  The campaign found R trains break down more often, are scheduled to come less frequently than most other lines, and when they arrive are later than average.  The N line (also known as the Sea Beach Express) fared a little better. It’s tied for the seventh best in the system. N trains (which have newer cars), break down less frequently than other lines. However, they are more crowded than most others. So, I’m sure you would like to know the worst subway lines. That distinction is also a tie between the A and 5 trains, with the Campaign asserting they are only worth a $1.50 ride. The MTA’s best lines are the L, 1 and 7 lines, but still due to some deficiencies, the Straphangers say they would only pay $2.05 for a ride on any one of those three.  But no matter how the Straphangers call it, unless you are a senior 65 or older, or handicapped and get a half fare discount, the MTA expects you to pay the full fare! If you’re buying a single fare on a new MetroCard, that will cost you $2.75 plus a $1.00 fee for a new card. Of course, you can also purchase lower priced rides by buying multiple fares on a reusable MetroCard.  On another front, we want to congratulate MTA Chairperson and former NYC Transit Authority President Thomas Prendergast, the engineering staff and Governor Andrew Cuomo on finally getting at least three new stations up and running on the new Second Avenue subway line which has been linked to the Q Train which terminates in Coney Island.
