A host of dignitaries were on hand to join Kane's family, friends and associates on this auspicious occasion. City Councilmember Vinnie Gentile -- who ensured the full Council approved the co-naming, wrote in the program, "A lifelong Bay Ridge resident, Tom's tremendous contributions and achievements left an indelible mark on the community he loved so much." Hello animal lovers...have you noticed that our pets become the focal of our lives, our compasses for activating new adventures, new dreams, new hopes, a new destiny? Pets are companions, counselors and free-spirits, teaching us to love them unconditionally. Where there is a void in our lives, pets constantly fill us with their fun antics, special greetings and oodles of themselves. We are fascinated and controlled by their nudging demands and constant reminders of who is the BOSS over us. and we love it, and wouldn’t have it any other way. Thank God for our family of pets. They make us who we are and who we become... IN LOVING MEMORY: Gypsy, Jeff and Laura Sunden’s nine-year-old pooch, now sits on God’s lap. Her gentle woofs and puppy-dog love are forever felt and missed, always. Her gentle loving sends ripples into the universe. RIP GYPSY...Eleven-year-old Pasha passed away in her mommy’s arms. She quietly raised her head, winked at Joanna, and gave one little kitty gurgle. Tsar, her long-haired, brown tabby companion, gently glided her up into Kitty Cat heaven... RIP Pasha. When I was a 13 years old, Reverend Trois, my minister, gave a sermon about Popeye, my five-year-old, 10-cent goldfish, saying that all of God’s loving creatures traveled back to Heaven leaving behind their grieving families. His consoling message -- “Animals were present and peaceful in the Garden of Eden. The future for animals is also promising — according to the Bible — as the lion shall eat straw like the ox in the Millennium and the wolf, leopard and sheep are also mentioned as existing on earth and living peacefully then (Isaiah chapter 11).” Until we meet again.... Twinkle Twinkle little pet, I thank God for the day we met. You filled my heart with your special love, And now, you are up above, On the wings of a Magical dove! IN LOVING MEMORY: GYPSY AND PASHA. *** CAT INFO: Calico cats are nearly always female...A cat can jump approximately seven times its height... Cats’ whiskers are not just things of beauty; they help them navigate in lower light and detect objects. A group of kittens is called a kindle, and a group of adult cats is called a clowder... An adult cat has 30 teeth, and our kitties need to eat healthy food that contains no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. *** PETS-PETS-PETS- The Brooklyn borough president’s Pet Adoption Event takes place at Marine Park at Avenue U on Saturday, April 30, 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. Adorable, adoptable pets will be at the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals’ Adoption Van at Marine Park on Saturday April 30, looking for their forever homes! We have had them since they were both kittens, approximately six years now. Last year, we had our first son and he is highly allergic to the cats and has been breaking out in hives. We have been trying to manage, but the doctors are recommending we find the cats a new home. We really want to find a home that keeps them together as they have never been apart. They are indoor cats, but still have their claws. They have been spayed and neutered and all their shots are up to date. We are currently living in downtown Manhattan. I am okay with cats, dogs and children. However, I would especially enjoy being the only cat in the house. That would be my preference. “I am an easy cat to take, as I am meticulously clean. I am looking for a new home, a life-long friend. I am looking for YOU. Would you like to come and meet me? Look into my stunning yellow eyes, and I’ll capture your loving heart. This could be the start of a new friendship. I am purrfect for you. I am spayed with my vaccinations and micro chipped.” Please contact [email protected]. *** Zani’s Furry Friends is a 501(c)3 non-profi t organization committed to rescuing companion animals from New York City shelters where, unfortunately, they are at signifi cant risk for euthanasia due to overcrowding. Beyond directly helping the animals they save, their rescue creates space at the shelter—thus giving another shelter cat or dog an opportunity to await a chance for adoption or rescue and thereby potentially saving yet another life. The group’s mission is to help you fi nd the perfect furry companion for your family and to help every animal they rescue fi nd the forever home it deserves. The group’s foster home network allows it to become fully familiar with each of the available cats and dogs and helps ensure the best possible match with adoptive families. Zani’s Furry Friends is a member of the Mayor’s Alliance and a New Hope Partner with the Animal Care & Control of New York City.
