On Stage at Kingsborough
is bringing the fun this
fall, thanks to a slew of
talent that will star in a diverse
collection of performances for
audiences of all ages and tastes.
“We are opening the season
at our beautiful Lighthouse
venue overlooking the ocean,
with Eddie Allen & His All-Star
Ensemble in a tribute to Louis
Armstrong,” said Anna Becker,
executive director at On Stage at
Kingsborough. “It’s a very special
way to open the season because
the Lighthouse is set up like a
nightclub and we serve wine and
cheese, giving the evening a very
exciting, yet intimate feel.”
"3hree For Louis" will be performed
on Friday, October 13 at
7 p.m.
Next up, dance lovers will
rejoice as On Stage brings Broadway
talent to Brooklyn with
“American Dance Spectacular!”
“We’re excited to present the
first show on the main stage
with the choreography of Al
Blackstone – best known for his
Broadway choreography on 'So
You Think You Can Dance,' and a
show that was created by Daniel
C. Levine, whose 'Broadway
Backstage' was met with extreme
enthusiasm by our audience,”
said Becker.
“This is a show that has music
and dance and it brings together
Broadway performers, including
dancers, singers and musicians,”
said Blackstone.
“It’s a Broadway team that is
exploring and celebrating the
evolution of dance in the United
States from the early 1900s until
today," he explained. "It really
explores how dance has changed
in America and at the same time
talks about how America itself
has changed through the lens of
dance and how Americans have
always had a fascination and love
for dance. It’s always been a huge
part of our culture and history. I
think ultimately that is the thing
we realized as we made the show.”
Blackstone added that the
highlight of the show will be the
performers. “One of the dancers
will have just finished a contract
with ‘Cats’ on Broadway and will
go directly into this show,” he
said. “Another dancer is finishing
up a contract with ‘Aladdin’
on Broadway."
Singers from “Wicked” and
"Groundhog Day” will also be on
stage.
“The dancers we brought together
are fabulous and I’m excited for
the audience to see them,” Blackstone
added. “It’s rare to have a
dancer show off all the things
they can do and these dancers
are going to get to do it all. It will
be challenging but exciting.”
He’s excited to perform for On
Stage at Kingsborough.
“It’s such a beautiful community,"
he said. "On Stage at
Kingsborough in particular has
a great variety of programming
and they bring different arts to
audiences that really appreciate
it. To premiere the show there
means a lot to me."
“American Dance Spectacular"
will be performed on Saturday,
October 28 at 8 p.m.
Broadway will return to On
Stage, Becker added, the following
month. “We’ll be joined by
more Broadway stars for 'Two’s
Company' in a celebration of
Broadway’s great duets,” she said.
The show will be performed on
Saturday, November 18 at 8 p.m.
“We’ll also meet Petra, the
granddaughter of the fabled Peter
from' Peter and the Wolf' in a
stunning original production for
children that features large-scale
puppetry and original, live music,”
added Becker. “Heading into the
holidays, we’re thrilled to welcome
back Yiddish Theatre star
Daniella Rabbani, this time with
the Israeli 12th Night Klezmer
ensemble in "Music Talks/Eight
Days of Klezmer", and also to
welcome back the State Ballet
Theatre of Russia in its enchanting
production of 'The Nutcracker.'
These shows and more means
there’s a fair amount of excitement
happening on our stage – with
Broadway and international stars
– throughout the fall!"
"Petra and The Wolf" will be
performed on Sunday, November
5 at 2 p.m. and "The Nutcracker"
on Sunday, December 17 at 3
p.m. "Music Talks/Eight Days of
Klezmer" will be performed on
Sunday, December 3, at 3 p.m.
The performances will take
place at On Stage at Kingsbourgh,
2001 Oriental Boulevard. For
