Senator Peralta calls
for tenant tax relief
Citing rising rents, State Senator
Jose Peralta has introduced
a bill that would grant
tax credits to tenants with moderate
incomes.
Peralta announced the legislation
at LeFrak City, standing alongside
residents as he called for an expansion
of a tax credit called a “tax circuit
breaker.”
Currently the household income
cap for qualifying for the credit is a
rock-bottom $18,000 – an amount set
30 years ago. Peralta’s bill would increase
that number more than fourfold,
to $75,000.
The bill would also increase the
amount of the credit, to $800 for
seniors and $400 for people 65 or
younger.
“Th is is a much-needed property
tax credit for hundreds of thousands
of New Yorkers who day after day
juggle to make ends meet,” said Senator
Peralta. “As the cost of living and
the rate of infl ation increase, we must
ensure the existing tax relief measures
keeps up with the pace.”
State Senator Jose Peralta was joined by LeFrak City residents at a press conference
announcing a bill he’s introduced that would extend a tax credit for tenants.

Maintenance Services teamed
up with NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst
and State Senator Jose Peralta to
off er free fl u shots to the community,
at a clinic February 13.
Around 100 LeFrak City residents
lined up for the free shots — which
aren’t fully eff ective at preventing the
fl u, but which can lessen the severity
of symptoms for those who end up
contracting the virus.
The winter season brought the
worst influenza outbreak in years,
with tens of thousands of confi rmed
cases and many thousands of people
requiring hospitalization in New York
State. Tragically, four children in New
York City died of the fl u, including an
8-year-old resident of LeFrak City.
“We need to ensure we do everything
possible to combat the spread of this
deadly virus,” said Senator Peralta at the
clinic, noting that the vaccine “can be
the diff erence between life and death.”
