CRE Adult Day Care Center opening soon
With current advances in
modern medicine, people
across the globe are
living longer and LeFrak City is no
exception. As they grow older, seniors
need a place where they can
remain active members of the community.
LeFrak City’s seniors will soon see
a change in the coming months with
the opening of the CRE Adult Day
Care Center, which will help bring
together the senior community while
offering programs and services to
their visitors, including beauty and
barber services.
At CRE Adult Day Care Center,
which will be located at 98-15 Horace
Harding Expressway on the LeFrak
City campus, senior-aged adults will
now be able to socialize with each other.
“We want to bring community
to the seniors around the neighborhood,”
said Kevin Guo, manager of
CRE Adult Day Care Center.
The senior center will offer a
variety of services for seniors in
the neighborhood. Visitors will be
provided with a free healthy breakfast
and lunch on the premises and
there will be free transportation
available to those who need it.
On site, there will be many games

and activities for the seniors to enjoy,
including bingo, dominos, and
a ping pong table. For the seniors
who are looking to keep up an active
lifestyle, the CRE Adult Day
Care Center will offer Zumba and
tai chi classes.
Seniors will also have access to a
barber or hair stylist on site so they
can get a haircut.
For seniors who are looking to
sharpen their tech skills or just want
to learn how to keep in touch with
loved ones online, the center will be
offering computer training classes.
“The purpose of the center is to
make the seniors happy,” said Mr.
Guo. “It will allow them to get out
of their houses to do activities. It
will make them happier, healthier
and they’ll live longer.”
The CRE Adult Day Care Center’s
building is currently undergoing
renovations and should open on or
about early October.
Sesame Sprout is growing by leaps and bounds
Sesame Sprout is in its third year
of serving young LeFrak City
residents at its school located at
95-15 Horace Harding Expressway,
providing a wide variety of educational
programs for children of the
community.
As Janet Rogers, Sesame Sprout’s
executive director, described, the
organization offers early education
services to students with learning disabilities
including free universal prekindergarten,
programs for students
in foster care or with working parents,
a private program for preschoolers,
an aft er- school component for
school age students 6-12 years and a
summer day camp.
But what sets Sesame Sprout from
other educational facilities in the
area, Ms. Rogers said, is its ability to
off er bilingual Spanish language instruction
and speech, occupational
and physical therapy.
“We also offer training in both
Spanish and English, as well as a
range of enriching programs designed
to support the success of
students in the context of New York
State’s Learning Standards,” Ms.
Rogers said.
Sesame Sprout relocated to LeFrak
City, Ms. Rogers noted, because the
state-of-the-art facility is “bright,
spacious and beautifully designed,”
ideal for accommodating the organization’s
growing population.
“The space has greatly improved
the overall teaching and learning
experience for our instructors and
students,” Ms. Rogers said.
First opened in Corona in 1984,
Sesame Sprout started out as an early
childhood care center for neighborhood
children. It was one of the
first community-based organizations
to join the Department of Education
Universal Pre-K program in
2001, and was also one of the first
early childhood programs that the
state Education Department approved
to provide special education
to preschool students with learning
disabilities.
Sesame Sprout has received myriad
honors for its service to local
children, including an “Outstanding
Early Childhood Program”
award from the New York State
Interagency Early Childhood Professional
Development Institute in
January 2009. That same year, the
organization also received an award
from then-City Councilwoman
Helen Sears.
“Our hard work, professionalism,
and dedication to our students
has been recognized by New York
City’s Universal Pre-Kindergarten
Program, which granted us with
three ‘outstanding’ awards and designated
our curriculum as a model
program,” Ms. Rogers said.
