Thanksgiving, so to make
sure none of our neighbors
lacked for a festive holiday meal this
year, State Senator Jose Peralta held
his seventh annual Turkey Drive last
month – with an assist from LeFrak
City Maintenance Services.
More than 700 turkeys were given
away through the initiative, through
which vouchers are distributed to
community organizations including
churches, schools, senior centers, and
faith-based groups. The organizations
hand the vouchers out to those
in need, who can redeem them at local
supermarkets and various other
locations for a 10-12 pound turkey to
grace the holiday table.
“As we refl ect during these times, it
is imperative to give thanks and help
families who are less fortunate. Th is
event is about giving back to the community,
and assisting those who are
struggling by providing them with a
free turkey that will help them enjoy
a decent holiday meal,” said Senator
Peralta, who partnered with Woodside
on the Move to conduct the drive.
LeFrak City is one of the biggest
partners in the eff ort, which is supported
by numerous other local organizations,
including C-Town and
Foodtown supermarkets.
“It’s heartwarming to be a part of
helping people celebrate the holidays,”
said Randi Koch Nir, the Director
of Residential Leasing for
LeFrak City, who attended a kickoff
event at Senator Peralta’s district offi
ce on Junction Boulevard in East
Elmhurst, along with LeFrak City
General Manager David Bernhardt.
“Thanksgiving is all about the
coming together of families, and
we’re glad to be able to be a part of
making sure people have what they
need.”
