Lobby Talk Compiled by Ruthie Darling
We asked LeFrak City residents what they put
on the holiday table when it’s time to celebrate.
Here are their answers.
Jimmy “We eat turkey and mac and cheese,
but my mom is of Nigerian heritage so we
often cook West African jollof rice and
collard greens too.”

Alex, Nalany and Angela “We love baked pork, yellow
rice and potato salad. Alex is from Ecuador and I am
from St. Croix in the Virgin Islands, so we blend those
fl avors together.”
Cynthia “I’ll be working at the holidays, so I guess whatever
is there.”
Laura and Adriana “We are Colombian-Americans and
that’s what we eat too — a mix of both. Rice and meats
mainly. It’s the best part of the holidays!”
Sonny “I work during the holidays and don’t get home until
11 p.m., but my family always saves me a plate. We all
love chicken so we have that alongside our more traditional
Filipino foods like fried noodles with pork and beef.”
Alissa “Oh I can’t cook, but my mom is Haitian
so we always eat onion pie and sweet potatoes.
I don’t know what my mom does to those potatoes,
but no other potatoes taste like hers.”
Dipak “My family is Nepalese-American so
we usually eat a mix of traditional food, some
turkey, curries and momo. We mix it up.”
Carmen “I am from Honduras and my
husband is from Ecuador, so our holiday
food is always spicy!”
