Schneps EDITOR IN CHIEF Jill Davis ART DIRECTOR Cheryl Gallagher ARTISTS Jack Giambanco, Stephen Reina, Nirmal Singh, Ron Torina, Jonathan Rodriguez the new General Manager for LeFrak City Maintenance Services, David Bernhardt. David started in his new position in September and brings with him more than a decade of experience in property management, including nearly 10 years with Real Estate Invest Trust, Avalonbay Communities Inc. in the NY/NJ metropolitan area. Additionally, David acquired a great deal of experience working with large multi-family residential properties as Director of Property Management at Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village in Manhattan. “My prior experiences have helped me develop the solid base of fundamental skills necessary to handle the scope and breadth of a community like LeFrak City,” David said. David’s responsibilities cover all aspects of the resident living experience at LeFrak City, as well as the care and upkeep of the physical property as well. “My team and I are here to respond to maintenance issues inside and outside the residents’ apartments,” David said. Maintenance Services also handles the preparation of all apartments for new residents in the event that an apartment becomes vacant, and also responds to our residents’ feedback and concerns regarding their apartment, neighbors, parking, grounds, laundry rooms, refuse rooms, hallways, etc. “We are here to assist in whatever capacity we can to provide the highest quality living experience possible at LeFrak City,” said David. David says that the most challenging part of his job is handling the unexpected events that come up each day, from the middle of the night bathroom leak to the early morning sick calls from staff members. “Everything that we go to great lengths to plan to get done each day always has to work around the unexpected and unplanned surprise events,” David explained. David is quick to acknowledge the entire Maintenance Services team and its dedication to getting the job done. “Th e most rewarding part of this job is watching the men and women on the LeFrak City team continuously go above and beyond to handle those unplanned events and still manage to handle the scheduled work as well. Th e common willingness to get the job done, and to take care of this community and all of its residents is truly inspiring. I fi nd it extremely rewarding, and I am truly thankful to be part of this team,” he said. One interesting fact about David is that he didn’t start out his career in property management but rather in hospitality management. “Th e actual start of my current career came only aft er some convincing from my wife (girlfriend at the time) to ‘give it a shot and see what it’s all about.’ So I gave up my management job in the bar/restaurant industry and took a combination of temporary work assignments from multiple staffi ng agencies working as a building porter, leasing agent, offi ce assistant, or whatever was needed at the time. I learned a great deal in a short time, and saw that this industry was growing and could really be something worth pursuing. Looking back, I am so thankful for that ‘convincing’ and learned very quickly to trust the advice of such a smart woman.” David’s all-round experience makes him uniquely qualifi ed for his new role at LeFrak City. He summed it up best: “I believe that my experiences and industry understanding have prepared me to join the Le- Frak City team, and aff orded me the privilege to work with an exceptional group of professionals dedicated to caring for LeFrak City and its residents.”
