J A N U A R Y 8 L E H A V R E N E W S Annual Le Havre Toys for Tots Fundraiser Another Big Success! It was a typically chilly December afternoon as Le Havre hosted its annual Toys for Tots fundraiser on Saturday, December 10. Le Havre has hosted this event for over 25 years now, and as always, was helped by the generous support from local businesses, residents’ toy donations and, of course, a visit from Santa Claus himself. The event kicked off at 12 noon with the arrival of two marines from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve who were “on duty” to collect all of the toys at the end of the day. The Marines also presented Le Havre with a Certificate of Appreciation for the co-op’s dedication to the cause, which was accepted on behalf of Le Havre by Vice President Steve Young. Kids and their parents arrived with toys in hand to give to those less fortunate. The children knew that Santa was coming soon, so they got to work composing “Dear Santa” letters and crafting original picture frames in anticipation of getting a photo op with the big guy. While they patiently waited for Santa’s arrival, DJ Mario led the kids in dancing to everything from Jingle Bell Rock to Michael Buble to Stevie Wonder. Santa arrived on the scene and said hello to all the boys and girls, read their letters and posed for pictures. Le Havre donated the use of the Clubhouse and the DJ’s services as well as the arts and crafts supplies that the children used to create their special keepsakes. Logan’s Café donated pizzas and beverages as well as the festive balloons that floated throughout the Clubhouse. In addition, a raffle was set up at the Clubhouse desk which offered a large assortment of goodies. Special thanks go to LeHavre resident Joan Barber who again helped coordinate the raffle, which included donations from, among others, local area restaurants Cascarino’s, the Riviera and Tasty Grill, as well as local salons Hair on 14th, R&L Hair Salon and Kragen Hair Salon. As always, the fundraiser was a winner. A total of ten three-foot tall Toys for Tots cartons were completely filled and over $2,700 was collected from the raffle and vendor contributions. Thank you everyone! 8 LEHAVRE COURIER | JANUARY 2017 | WWW.QNS.COM
