Heating Up Spring weather in Queens means residents will be spending more time outdoors and several new updates in Long Island City and Astoria will make this time spent outside so much more fun. The Department of Transportation released its 2016 bike map with several new miles of bike lanes set to be installed in Astoria and Long Island City. Residents who want to travel to Brooklyn will have a new bike lane on the Pulaski Bridge this spring to make it easier and safer to ride from Long Island City to places like Greenpoint. Astoria residents will have new bike lanes on Shore Boulevard, Hoyt Avenue North and 20th Avenue. A playground under the Triborough Bridge in Astoria will be renovated to include ping pong tables, volleyball courts and adult exercise equipment. This issue is also filled with Queens residents who double as entrepreneurs. Julliard graduate and Long Island City resident Jessica Lang will open a dance studio this September and will offer classes to students as young as 18 months old. The space will also double as a studio for her dance company. Astoria resident Sarah Hill has created a company that plays the part of a matchmaker for roommates. Perfect Strangers of New York helps people find the perfect roommate and perfect apartment. You will also read about some good news in Long Island City. P.S./I.S. 78 will not lose middle school seats this year, which will allow students to keep attending school in their neighborhood. The $4 billion makeover of LaGuardia Airport was approved by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey so western Queens residents will have a new and improved airport in approximately 39 months.
