Mixing It Up BY SASHA POGREBINSKY DISCOVER LIC Witches’ Brew AND Slime Stew Holiday season is coming up fast and we get to make fun and creative cocktails. Starting with Halloween, you can really get away with the weirdest ingredients and flavors. Our innerkid comes out and we get to be as wacky and bizarre as we want. But to get the party started, you got to have some crazy and exciting drinks. These two cocktail recipes are delicious year round, but they are also great to play around with at Halloween time and both can be converted into a punch. Just add some eye-ball gum balls and liquorish worms and you’ve got a freaky cocktail party ready to rage. Slime Stew 1/2 oz lime juice 1/2 oz lemon juice 1/4 oz dry gin 1/4 oz green chartreuse 1/4 oz maraschino liqueur black liquorish gummy worms Combine all the wet ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake well. Rim a glass mug with black or red crystalized sugar (sold in the baking isle). Empty the drink mix into a glass mug over crushed ice, decorate with black gummy worm. Witches’ Brew Punch 1/2 oz fresh lime juice 1/2 oz cinnamon syrup* 2 oz pomegranate juice 1 oz grape juice 1.5 oz Dark Rum Candied grapes* Fresh Pomegranate seeds Combine all wet ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake well. Strain into a punch cup, garnish with candied grapes and pomegranate seeds. SASHA POGREBINSKY *Cinnamon Syrup: Simmer for 15 minutes 1 cup water, 1 cup granulated sugar, 1 cinnamon stick. Cool, and store in a jar or bottle in the fridge. *Candied Grapes: 1 cup of seedless, red grapes. 1 cup brown sugar. Coat the grapes with brown sugar, roast in the oven 400F for about 5 to 10 minutes or until the sugar caramelizes. Cool and store in the fridge.
