Workforce of Today and Tomorrow Bartos Screening Room 10:00AM - 11:00AM In addition to location and transportation, access to the Western Queens workforce is a key reason businesses choose to be in LIC. LIC itself is home to longtime and new residents, with a wide range of education, and to a wide range of well-paid jobs across a growing number of industries, and all skill levels. This panel will explore how to provide the right kind of education, skills and training to enable local residents to fill these positions, and how to connect the businesses here to candidates with the right qualifications, to help both our economy and our community to thrive. Dennis Walcott (Moderator) Queens Public Library Dennis M. Walcott is the President and CEO of Queens Library. Walcott is a life-long resident of Queens and has spent his career in public service and education. He recently served as the state-appointed monitor of the East Ramapo School District. From 2011 through 2013, Walcott served as Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education, where he led transformational change. Mr. Walcott served as Deputy Mayor for Education and Community Development during the Bloomberg Administration. Douglas Stayman Cornell Tech Doug Stayman is the Associate Dean at Cornell Tech. Mr. Stayman’s teaching and research interests are in the areas of advertising and consumer decision making. His research has focused on the study of emotional responses to advertising and the role of affect in decision making. His work has involved methodological and measurement issues in studying emotions. He is also interested in theoretical accounts of the effects of emotions on people’s preferences. Prior to coming to Cornell, he taught at the University of Texas at Austin. Carol Conslato (Introduction) Con Edison Carol Conslato is the Director of Public Affairs for Con Edison and is responsible for community and government relations. She has held key management at Con Edison in Corporate Planning, Energy Efficiency, and Economic Development. Janet Corcoran LaGuardia Community College Janet Corcoran serves as Executive Advisor to LaGuardia Community College President Gail O. Mellow. Previously, she served as the chief executive of three innovative New York City-based nonprofit organizations: PENCIL, Common Good, and most recently, Read Ahead. Drawing upon her unique combination of experience in law, government, finance and management, she helps organizations address internal as well as public policy challenges, using innovative cross-sector and interdisciplinary approaches. Her areas of expertise include workforce development, strategic planning, business-education partnerships, and corporate philanthropy. Andrea Azzolina JetBlue Andrea (Andi) Azzolina is the Director of Shared Development Services for JetBlue Airways. In this role, Andi is responsible for Development, Data and Integration Services. Prior to joining JetBlue, Andi worked for 11 years as the Director of Applications Management at NYU Medical Center. There, she led the development and implementation of more than 100 teaching, research and patient care applications and was responsible for the enterprise employee data warehouse and reporting. Andi has over 20 years of experience in software development, data management, research, reporting and analytics. Angie Kamath Per Scholas Angie Kamath is currently the National Executive Director of Social Ventures and Innovation and part of the Per Scholas senior leadership team. Angie is responsible for scaling and launching social ventures that earn revenues that will be reinvested into the training programs at Per Scholas. From 2013 to 2015, Angie oversaw the New York City operations, where she expanded programming for youth, and women in technology. Previously, she spent seven years working in the Bloomberg administration as a Deputy Commissioner at the Department of Small Business Services, overseeing one of the country’s largest public adult workforce systems.
