Transformations in Transit Redstone Theater 11:15AM - 12:15PM Historically, LIC has had unparalleled transportation assets which make it uniquely attractive for businesses, residents and visitors. New patterns of transit, though, are needed to serve today’s economy, and more service is needed on existing routes. Experts will discuss new projects to support emerging needs across all modes, including what’s already underway (expanded ferry service, upgraded buses, bike expansion, intermodal stations) and proposals for the future (Brooklyn Queens Connector and new bridges), as well as other creative approaches to these essential issues. Thomas K. Wright (Moderator) Regional Plan Association Tom Wright is president of Regional Plan Association, an independent urban planning think tank focused on improving the quality of life in the Tri-State area. As a leading thinker on urban and regional policy, Tom is a frequent speaker on economic growth and development, roads and transit, and other public policy issues. Prior to being named RPA’s president in 2015, Tom was the organization’s executive director and steered many key RPA initiatives, including the historic Civic Alliance to Rebuild Downtown New York following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. Tom played a key role in the creation of A Region at Risk, RPA’s influential third plan for the metropolitan region published in 1996, and he is guiding the organization’s development of a fourth regional plan. Elizabeth Lusskin (Introduction) LIC Partnership Elizabeth Lusskin is President of LIC Partnership and Executive Director of the LIC BID. She joined LIC Partnership after serving as Chief of Staff/VP Strategic Initiatives at NYU Polytechnic School of Engineering, expanding its incubator and entrepreneurship efforts. Previously, she served as Deputy Commissioner, NYC SBS, General Counsel, Downtown Alliance, and Legislative Counsel, NYS Office of Federal Affairs. Cameron Clark Hornblower As the Vice President and General Manager of our New York port, Cameron Clark has managed Hornblower’s emerging technology and development of its ISO programs for over 12 years. Cameron implemented Hornblower’s - Respect Our Planet - ISO 14001 (environmental), ISO 9001(quality), and OHSAS 18001(Health & Safety) integrated management system. Hornblower became the first service company in the United States registered under these three certifications. Cameron now heads Citywide Ferry Service for Hornblower. Thomas McKnight NYCEDC Thomas McKnight is Executive Vice President of the New York City Economic Development Corporation, where he oversees the Planning, Development, and Transportation division. Tom’s division is responsible for planning for real estate, infrastructure and transportation investment across the City. His work is aimed at achieving economic transformation and neighborhood growth by increasing access, equity, and jobs for all New Yorkers. Ryan Russo New York City Department of Transportation Ryan is the NYC Department of Transportation’s Deputy Commissioner for Transportation Planning and Management. He oversees the development and implementation of the street improvements for the City’s Vision Zero initiative and is currently working on a plan to dramatically improve safety and walkability along the Queens Boulevard corridor. Peter Cafiero MTA New York City Transit Peter Cafiero is NYC Transit’s Chief of Operations Planning. He headed planning for the Second Av. Subway and NY’s first BRT routes, led international subway and bus benchmarking groups and is working to improve service and maximize capacity by using data to support real-time operating decisions and address station capacity challenges.
