LICSUMMIT 2016

LIC Comprehensive Plan Historically and increasingly LIC is a key economic driver for the region. It is a source of good-paying, middle class jobs for local workers, of essential goods and services for NYC, and, increasingly, of housing – both affordable and market-rate. Despite its economic importance, LIC has never had an overall plan guiding its development, and is developing in ways no one ever planned for. This first-ever LIC Comprehensive Plan will address how to leverage LIC’s tremendous market potential to not only preserve but also enhance this authentic, mixed-use city within the City. We have just completed Phase 1, gathering information from many different sources including a large scale business survey, to identify emerging issues and validate existing ones with compelling data. Through this effort we created a list of policy, investment and project recommendations to help meet the needs of our growing community while maintaining a vital mix of uses. As we prepare to publish our full Phase 1 Report and move into Phase 2 of the Plan, with both implementation and further study, we look forward to continuing to work with all who are stakeholders in, leaders of and supporters of LIC. The Plan has received pivotal support from: NYS Senator Michael Gianaris, NYS Assemblywoman Catherine Nolan, NYC Council Speaker Mark-Viverito, NYC Council Majority Leader Jimmy Van Bramer, Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen, Empire State Development, NYC Economic Development Corporation, ConEdison, Cornell Tech, the Ford Foundation, JetBlue, TD Bank Charitable Foundation and Verizon.
