Semper FORE! BY STEPHEN VRATTOS Photos by Dawn Steinberg On Friday, May 19, North Shore Towers showed its appreciation to our veterans by treating members of the Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team™ (WWAST) to a day of golf festivities in the Country Club. Veteran and active servicemen, who’ve sustained severe injuries resulting in amputation, enjoyed a 9-hole round of golf with Golf Association President Stan Yoel, NST Board President Mario Carmiciano, and Pro Bob Guido and Assistant John Morrison, who also took time to teach the Warriors a few pointers to improve their games. The members then gathered in the VIP Room for lunch. Founded in 2010, the WWAST’s mission is to inspire and educate others while enhancing the health and welfare of Wounded Warrior Amputees. It also gives veterans the opportunity to compete and serve our country beyond the battlefield, playing able-bodied teams across the nation in celebrity and exhibition softball games, bringing courage and inspiration. The idea to do something nice for our nation’s servicemen as a means of saying “Thank you,” originated last year from a suggestion by former Board Member Pat Tulchin’s son, Steve, who is an active softball player on a Long Island team, which plays the WWAST in charity events every year. This is the second year NST has hosted members of WWAST and it is hoped the outing will become a proud tradition at the co-op. NST says “Thank you!” to our nation’s heroes (Standing, l. to r.)
