FEBRUARY 2017 • Volume 13 • Issue 2 THE ONLY BAD INCENTIVES ARE THE ONES THAT DON’T GET USED est in these cost-saving opportunities. Much can be said for Long Island City Partnership (LICP) and the Queens Economic Development Corporation (QEDC), where we speak to local businesses and community groups to provide more transparency to an often opaque source of financial possibility. All of this activity and more translates into promoting Queens as a viable place to live and work. International businesses and those growing domestically are looking into Queens to take advantage of its significant resources: transportation, a skilled workforce, commercial space and housing to set-up shop. Economic incentives play only a part in attracting businesses, but we’ve seen our clients grow by strengthening their workforce, training them to succeed, and investing in their businesses to remain in Queens for years to come. Please connect with us. We encourage you to contact us to gauge your eligibility for a vast selection of government incentives. We hear, “… incentives are too complex and that they invite too much regulation.” “They’re not really worth our effort.” One firm was awarded incentive packages in the millions to help a project in which over 100 jobs were created that they didn’t think was possible. In another instance a small business received hundreds of thousands to relocate and buy a piece of equipment needed to expand its business to export internationally just because they gave us a call. As with all financial decisions, there’s much to consider. We hope to cut through the red tape and simplify the complex world of incentives to bring these benefits to you and the entire Queens community. New York Grant Company is a private consulting firm specializing in navigating the maze of economic incentives. 3 See www.nygrants.com for details. We hear of large corporations getting tax breaks to lower operating costs so they can hire new employees and communities receiving development money to revitalize downtowns, amongst others. What comes of it, and how do such incentives help promote businesses and communities, are questions that repeatedly come to mind. At New York Grant Company, we believe that the best communities are the ones in which everyone has a voice and everyone’s needs are met. As effective economic developers, we build partnerships with every player in the local economy. We think that an economic community isn’t just a random group of entrepreneurs, stable businesses, customers, workers and bureaucrats; it’s an ecosystem in which everyone has a stake and a role to play. Companies want to grow, people want jobs, customers want services and politicians want revenues. While the players may sometimes seem to have conflicting goals, at the end of the day, they want the same thing: a robust, vibrant and profitable economy. What We Do to Help Your Community Whatever your business is, you probably want to see it grow. Your government and utility companies want to support that. They’ve allocated billions of dollars in financial incentives to help you make the step from good to great, and the leap from a small business to a big industry. The New York Grant Company helps your business receive the incentives that you need to grow, expand, renovate, innovate and relocate. We find all the incentives that are available to you, fill out your applications, and shepherd you through the entire process. In short, we will ensure that you get every penny that you qualify for and won’t stop until your business has everything that it needs to grow to its full potential. Proof in the Pudding Across Queens County, we have helped nonprofits and all sizes of business and community organizations to secure valuable economic incentives: grants, tax breaks, energy discounts, alternative financing and other benefits to encourage positive economic activity. Each year, we find hundreds of thousands, millions, and even tens of millions in benefits offered by local, state and federal agencies to enable hiring more people, opening more locations, building more facilities, becoming more energy efficient and working smarter through training. We collaborate with organizations like the Queens Chamber of Commerce to provide the education of such options to various groups to promote awareness and inter-
