Law enforcement sources said the shooting took place at 6:20 p.m. on April 13 in front of a home on 86th Avenue between 101st and 102nd streets. According to police, the victim was walking through the area when he was approached by three suspects, described as two black males and one Hispanic male, who demanded cash and drugs. When the teenager refused to comply with their demands, authorities said, one of the bandits pulled out a silver handgun and started fi ring. One of the bullets grazed the back of the victim’s head; the suspects subsequently fl ed the scene on foot eastbound along 86th Avenue. An investigation is ongoing. 109th Precinct College Point, Flushing, Whitestone Truck driver dies in expressway crash A 50-year-old truck driver died on Tuesday morning aft er losing consciousness behind the wheel on the Whitestone Expressway in Flushing and hitting two other vehicles, police said. Th e accident occurred at around 7 a.m. on April 18 on the southbound side of the expressway near Exit 14 (Linden Place). According to police, the 50-year-old male, whose identity has not yet been released, was driving a 2011 red Ford truck southbound on the Whitestone Expressway when he lost consciousness. Th e truck side swept a 2013 white Audi sedan operated by a 34-year-old male and then rear-ended a 2007 white Chevy truck being driven by a 51-year-old male. First responders discovered the 50-yearold truck driver unconscious and unresponsive and the 51-year-old male with neck and back pain. Both were transported by EMS to NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens hospital, where the 50-year-old was pronounced dead and the 51-year-old was listed in stable condition. Th e 34-year-old Audi driver was not hospitalized in the incident. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing. 115th Precinct Corona, East Elmhurst, Jackson Heights Creep wanted for attempted rape Police need the public’s help in fi nding the man who beat up and then attempted to sexually assault a 35-year-old woman on a Jackson Heights street early on Sunday morning, April 16. Law enforcement sources said the incident took place at 4:40 a.m. in the vicinity of 74th Street and 37th Avenue, where the perpetrator — described as a Hispanic male between 30 and 35 years of age, standing 5 foot 5 inches tall with a medium build — approached the victim from behind. According to authorities, the suspect punched the woman numerous times in the back of her head, causing her to fall to the ground. He then dragged her over to a nearby fence, where he attempted to sexually assault the woman. Police said the victim managed to fi ght off her attacker, then ran away toward 37th Avenue, where she sought help from a passing driver. Th e suspect was last observed heading northbound on 74th Street with the victim’s purse. Th e woman was treated at Elmhurst Hospital for bruises and abrasions to her head and torso. Th e NYPD released late on Sunday night video of the suspect near the crime scene. He was last observed wearing a white jacket, a green shirt, light colored pants and black shoes. Whitestone man pays for cocaine smuggling A Whitestone man will spend the next 18 years behind bars aft er being convicted of importing cocaine with his wife and son through their family restaurant in Corona, prosecutors announced on April 18. Gregorio Gigliotti, 61, operator of Cucino Amodo Mio, located at 51-01 108th St. in Corona, was ordered to serve 18 years in prison aft er he and his son Angelo Gigliotti were found guilty of participating in a long-running cocaine importation scheme in July. Th e jury also found Gregorio Gigliotti guilty of unlawfully possessing fi rearms, including a fi rearm with a defaced serial number. Gigliotti’s wife, Eleanora, 55, admitted to her participation in the family’s drug-traffi cking in January of this year, pleading guilty to conspiring to import cocaine. She and her son Angelo are still awaiting sentencing, facing 5 years and 20 years in jail, respectively. According to the U.S. Attorney’s offi ce, the defendants’ arrests arose out of a long-term investigation conducted by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the FBI. Th e defendants started using the restaurant and Fresh Farm Export Corp., a produce importation company, as a covered for the drug smuggling operation. During the investigation, law enforcement agents intercepted 55 kilograms of cocaine that were hidden inside cardboard boxes that had cassava in them that were sent through Costa Rica between October and December 2014. Th e Gigliottis were initially arrested on March 11, 2015. Federal offi cers searched the family restaurant and recovered seven loaded guns, ammunition magazines, loose ammunition, two handgun holsters, brass knuckles, over $100,000 in cash and a handwritten ledger that showed the movement of over $350,000.
