VOL. XLV, NO. 1 APRIL 2017 (REPRINT) Founders’ Day 40th Anniversary Special Edition A Message From the Current Principal Peter J. Mannarino As I walk the halls and visit classrooms throughout the school, I count my blessings in having the opportunity and good fortune of serving as principal of Christ the King for the past 11 years. The smiling faces and greetings from the students are a rejuvenating elixir that I look forward to each morning when I walk through the doorway. Christ the King has become not only a center of learning, but a center for social activities that help maintain the vibrancy of our community. There is hardly a part of the building, or time of day, that the campus is not in use, making it home to the dozens of programs and activities that serve all of us. None of this would be possible if it were not for the courage, the vision and the sacrifice of the Founders. Led by Board Chairman Serphin R. Maltese, and long-time Vice Chairmen Robert A. Normandia and the late, and much respected, Thomas V. Ognibene, they established the Independent Catholic High School known as Christ the King! It is to them that we owe sincere gratitude. Because of them, thousands of well-educated students have earned their high school diplomas, enabling them to go to college or enter the workforce and become productive members of society. One need only walk down Christ the King’s “Hall of Fame” to witness the great contributions our graduates and members of our community have made in every walk of life. We are also proud of the many families that have made graduating from Christ the King High School a family tradition. To all our Founders celebrating with us today, whether in person or in spirit, thank you and may God bless you. Sincerely, Peter J. Mannarino On April 2, 2017 a Founders’ Day Dedication and Luncheon Celebration was held at Christ the King High School to mark the 40th Anniversary of the school as an Independent Catholic High School. For the occasion, a bronze plaque was installed on the entrance wall of CK to acknowledge the classes and families of the students of 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1979, as well as the original Board members of the Committee to Save Christ the King, who worked tirelessly to keep the school open during a critical time in its history.
