 By Ronda Addy Your mom is special, so why shouldn’t her Mother’s Day gifts be just as special? This year instead of the same old stuff, why not get your mom something unique? Here are some ideas. The Snow Ski Rocker is made from Port Orford, OR, cedar with stainless steel fasteners and recycled snow skis. With extra long arms and an anatomically curved back, the rocker doesn’t have to be treated if left outdoors. Resistant to insects and rot, it will turn a silvery grey patina if left untreated and can be preserved using a UV inhibitor sealer. The rocker comes partially assembled and must be glued together. As with all cedar furniture, it is subject to checking, a natural process in which wood releases moisture across or through the annual growth rings. Because checking occurs on the surface only, the integrity of the wood won’t be affected. The rocker is available through a number of Web sites. The typewriter key necklace is handmade from authentic typewriter keys of the 1920s, ‘30s and ‘40s. The keys are set in sterling silver on a silver 18” ball chain.
