34 The Courier sun • september 29, 2016 FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT www.qns.com Michael Resnick of Sinai Chapels Receives Community Service Award On Sunday, September 18th 2016, Michael Resnick, President of Sinai Chapels in Fresh Meadows, Queens, was honored at the Queen Jewish Community Council’s 20th Testimonial Breakfast with the Organization’s annual Community Service Award. The breakfast took place at Young Israel of Jamaica Estates and also honored Svetlana (Lana) Levitin and the Queens NYPD. Michael was honored for his contributions to Jewish philanthropy and extensive community service. For four generations the Resnick family and Sinai Chapels have provided compassionate care to New York’s Jewish community at their time of need. Michael and his father, Seymour Resnick, opened Sinai Chapels in Fresh Meadows in 1981. When presenting the Award to Michael Resnick, Rabbi David Keehn, President of the Queens Jewish Community Council said “The Council is pleased to honor such an outstanding individual who has given so much to our community.” Previously, Michael was honored in May of 2016 for his community service by the United Jewish Appeal (UJA)-Federation of New York at Shelter Rock Jewish Center in Roslyn. Michael’s wife, Debbie, is President of Shelter Rock’s Sisterhood. Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation Honored Michael with a Parker Platinum Professionals award. He was honored by the Jewish Studies Program at Queens College for his steadfast support of their annual special Kristallnacht commemoration, recommitting to combatting anti-Semitism and hatred. Michael was also honored as a Queens business leader who has provided meaningful support to The Harriet and Kenneth Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center and Archives at Queens Community College. Michael majored in Business at the University of Miami, Florida and graduated from the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service in 1980. Michael has three decades of experience in the funeral business. He is a member of The Jewish Funeral Directors of America and KAVOD — The Independent Jewish Funeral Chapels. Michael has served twice as Chancellor Commander of Sam Harris Renaissance Lodge of the Knights of Pythias. He is a member and former officer of the Brandeis Lodge (Masonic Order) and serves as an active member of numerous fraternal organizations. Michael and his wife Dennie live in Manhasset Hills. They have three adult children and a grandchild.
