The Blau Weiss Gottschee (BWG)
boys, girls and men’s teams all
put on impressive performances
this past weekend.
On the boys side, the BWG 2008
teams played their cross-town rivals,
Met Oval SC. The BWG White team
was dominant, defeating Met Oval 10-1,
while the Blue team had a much closer
game but still came out on top 6-4.
The BWG 2007 Blue and White
teams also won their games against
Met Oval SC. The Blue team won 7-2,
while the White team blanked Met
Oval 6-0.
On Sunday, Nov. 12, the 2007s
fi nished the group stage of the NY
State Cup with a perfect record and
outscored their opponents by a count
of 25 to 4.
The 2004 Pre-Academy team tied
Eastern FC 1-1 in the NY Cup to help
them win their group and advance
to the knockout stage. The 2003
Pre-Academy team came back from a
2-0 defi cit to tie Beacon Burn.
The U16s Pre-Academy travelled to
SUNY Purchase to play FC Westchester
under the lights. BWG dominated
the fi rst half and were up 1-0 at halftime
thanks to Sal D’Angelo’s goal.
BWG came out strong in the second
half, but FC Westchester was able to
tie the game. BWG was able to retake
the lead on a strike from Larry Diggs.
The U16s Pre-Academy squad is
currently in second place, fi ve points
behind Bethesda at the top of the NEPAL
with a game in hand. They will
face Beachside next week to close out
the fall season.
On the girls side, the BWG Girls
2002 team started the weekend with
a 2-1 win on Saturday, Nov. 11, against
Merrick at Grover Cleveland Athletic
Field in Ridgewood on a pair of goals
from Victoria Padavona.
On Sunday, they traveled out to East
Setauket to take on Stony Brook and
battled to a 2-2 draw. BWG took the
lead early in the fi rst half on a nice
fi nish by midfi elder Olivia Morrow.
Stony Brook equalized aft er the break,
but BWG went up again on a strike by
Isabella Caridi. Unfortunately the lead
did not hold as Stony Brook pounced
upon a bad rebound to pull even.
The 2004 girls played against the
Kosmos on Sunday and were able to
walk away with a big 7-1 victory, while
the 2008 girls shutout East Meadow in
a league game 5-0.
BWG resurrected its men’s
team two years ago and won the
Cosmopolitan Soccer League Metro
2 Championship back in May,
allowing them to advance to the
Metro 1 division. Last weekend the
team was in action against Richmond
County FC in the State Cup.
Former BWG youth players Greg
Davis and Rich Heredia gave BWG
a two goal lead, but some sloppy
defending allowed Richmond
back in the game. At the end of
regulation the game was tied 2-2
and went to penalties, which BWG
won 4-2.
