Jane Garvey Made History and Many Contributions
20 AIRPORT VOICE, APRIL 2019
Throughout Her Aviation Career
BY JESSICA MILITELLO
Jane Garvey is the North America Chairman
of Meridiam, a global investor company specializing
in major infrastructure projects. Garvey has
invested in a long and successful career in aviation
that is both inspiring and remarkable to take
note of.
From her tenure with the Federal Aviation
Administration, to her work advising the United
States Public and Private Partnerships at JPMorgan,
Garvey’s career seems to extend through every
facet of the industry.
Garvey provides an interesting perspective on
how the aviation affects the community, in a way
that goes beyond the direct community where airports
lie.
“Aviation was something that I was drawn to,
said Garvey. “In part because it had such a direct
impact on people’s lives. It really can transform
a community and it’s a real link between infrastructure,
quality of life and improving the community.”
Garvey’s experience in aviation ranges from
roles such as director of Boston’s Logan International
and Acting Administrator of the Federal
Highway Administration. She held prominent
roles such as her appointment as the 14th Administrator
of the U.S Federal Aviation Administration
where she was the first female administrator
in history. She served under President Clinton
and President Bush, and notably experienced the
events and immediate aftermath of the September
11, 2001 terrorist attacks, which aside from dealing
with the horrible tragedy, was also a trying
time in reasserting the public’s trust in safety in
aviation. In 2008, Garvey was appointed to be part
of the transition team for Barak Obama when he
was first elected to advise the administration on
transportation polices. Garvey has been the recipient
of many awards, such as the National Air
