He was recently named Person of the Year by
the American Association of Suicidology (AAS),
‘honoring his life-affirming music and message,
which promotes courageously and joyously
celebrating the intensities of existence,” according
to his website.
It’s refreshing to see W.K., who released his first
EP in 1999, change and yet remain the same. He’s
still accessible to fans which matches the brand of
his music, writing personalized notes to fans that
show up after concerts or other events.
His fans are a diverse group, from all walks of life
and ages. This record is sure to expand that base.
Yet, there’s still something mysterious about the
man that keeps fans guessing and intrigued by the
lifestyle of a man who is trying to spread positivity in
a not so positive time.
“You’re Not Alone” is the album W.K.’s fans have
thirsted for. And for those open to giving it a listen
because they thought his most popular single “Party
Hard” was a well-crafted tune or just want to feel
good, it’s the record you didn’t know you wanted.
Seeing the work promoted the right way is
encouraging to W.K.’s future. It’s rare an artist can
recapture creative juices after 12 years of some form
of absence. He has done that and more. Savor it and
pray that it’s not another decade-plus until album
number five.
Long live the party! (That’s also a song from his
catalogue.)
