One of the City University of
New York’s oldest institutions,
Baruch College is located in the
heart of Manhattan just outside of
midtown. Baruch enrolls just over
15,000 students with a 39 percent
acceptance rate and 3.30 average
high school GPA for accepted
students, and it off ers a wide
variety of majors for students
with varying interests. What
makes it especially attractive,
along with most CUNY schools, is
its very aff ordable tuition of just
over $6,700 for New York State
residents and $18,000 for outof
state residents, as well as its
average scholarship package of
$7,504. For that reason, Baruch
is packed full of diverse New
Yorkers and only three percent
of the student body comes from
other states. While 40 percent of
students graduate in four years,
the median starting salary for
graduates is $57,100 and Baruch
is surrounded by every job
opportunity imaginable.
Brooklyn College (CUNY)
Located in the center of Brooklyn in the Flatbush-Ditmas Park
neighborhood, Brooklyn College is another one of CUNY’s longest
running schools. It also is home to approximately 15,000 students with
a slightly higher acceptance rate of 44 percent and an average high
school GPA of 3.30 for incoming freshman. While its greatest value is the
in-state tuition of $6,700 and out-of-state tuition of $18,000, Brooklyn
College also boasts a very wide variety of majors and degree programs.
Although its four-year graduation rate is slightly lower at 29 percent,
Brooklyn College graduates bring in a median starting salary of $50,100
and a survey shows that 43 percent of graduates feel their job has a lot
of meaning in their life.

City College (CUNY)
As the very fi rst CUNY school, City College has been educating New
York students since 1847. Its 35-acre Harlem campus is fi lled with
historic Gothic buildings and more than 13,000 students are enrolled in
a given year. It has an acceptance rate of 41 percent with a particular
interest in welcoming students with a wide range of high school GPAs.
Despite a very low four-year graduation rate of 12 percent, City College
off ers many degree programs including doctorate degrees, and it places
33 percent of its students in science, technology, engineering and
mathematics fi elds. City College graduates also make a median starting
salary of $53,000. Best of all, it has a slightly lower tuition than other
CUNY schools with a cost of $6,500 for in-state students and $17,400 for
out-of-state students, and it awards an average scholarship pacage of
more than $10,000 to freshmen.
