The Cooper Union for
Advancement of Science
and Art
Cooper Union is certainly the most unique school on the
list with its very specifi c academic focus and tiny student
body. In fact, only 867 students are enrolled in the school
and it accepts 13 percent of its applicants with an average
high school GPA of 3.60. Tuition costs $44,550, but Cooper
Union awards its students with an average scholarship
package of more than $46,000. Its location in Manhattan’s
popular East Village is a nice attraction for this school
as well. Cooper Union maintains a graduation rate of 62
percent, but an impressive 56 percent of those graduates
are working in science, technology, engineering and math
fi elds with a median starting salary of nearly $66,000.

Queens College (CUNY)
Queens College has the most traditional college setting with its 80-acre campus in Flushing Queens, yet 99 percent of its students are commuting New
Yorkers that do not live on campus. Queens College enrolls well over 16,000 students while accepting 43 percent of its applicants who have an average
high school GPA of 3.50. With its in-state tuition of just $6,530 and out-of-state tuition of $17,400, Queens College also gives out an average scholarship
package of $8,600 and claims that 90 percent of its four-year graduates have no student debt. To that extent, 29 percent of students graduate in four years
and earn a starting median salary of nearly $51,000.
