The Apollo
The opening night of the festival features the world premiere of Academy
Award-winning director Robert Ross Williams and HBO’s new documentary
“The Apollo,” which chronicles the history and legacy of the Apollo Theater.
Packed full of archival footage, music, comedy, dance performances and
behind-the-scenes moments that show how the theater runs, the feature
length documentary aims to highlight the immense impact the Apollo
Theater has had on American pop culture. The documentary follows the new
production of Ta-Nehisi Coates’ “Between the World and Me” as it comes
to the grand stage, while also weaving in interviews from artists like Patti
LaBelle, Pharrell Williams, Smokey Robinson, and Jamie Foxx. The fi lm will
debut inside the famed theater itself on April 24 and have additional dates
during the festival before its premiere on HBO later this year.
A Day in the Life of America
Academy-Award winning actor, musician and director Jared Leto
continues his multifaceted career as the director of “A Day in the
Life of America,” a feature length documentary that illustrates the
complexities of American life by crowd-sourcing footage from a
single day, July 4, 2017. With hundreds of interviews sourced from
all 50 states, the fi lm explores the intersection of politics, faith
and traditions while capturing compelling stories from all walks
of life. The fi lm explores the vast diff erences and similarities in
the lives of Americans and is dubbed as “a rallying
cry for our collective responsibility towards
one another and to our great country”

Fairbanks. The world premiere of “A
Day in the Life of America” is on April
27 at the Borough of Manhattan
