The Subway Series
2019 Season Preview
There has been a lot of talk
about baseball’s pace in
recent years, with games
lasting upwards of three
hours, a 162-game season
that spans seven months and
the patience of Americans growing thinner
every day. The rate of change within each team,
however, is exactly the opposite. Yearly roster
changes and the very random nature of the game
have led to an unpredictability that always gives fans
hope that their team is on the brink of a playoff run.
In New York, the Yankees embodied that rapid
change last season by winning 100 games for
the fi rst time since 2009. The surge came after
the team traded for reigning-MVP Giancarlo
Stanton, who alongside Aaron Judge and the rest
of the Yankees slugger-heavy lineup hit a recordbreaking
267 home runs during the season. Still,
it felt like a disappointing year after their archrival
Boston Red Sox won 108 games, beat the
Yankees in the playoff s and ultimately cruised to
another World Series title. With the Yankees roster
remaining largely unchanged, it feels like it’s a
World Series or bust season in 2019. Courtesy of the New York Yankees
