The JFK Redevelopment
Council (JFKRDC) has moved
forward in its commitment
to keep the public involved in
the redevelopment process
since its fi rst main body
meeting weeks ago. It has
created special committees to
formulate activity, processes
and ways for the public
to interact productively
with the investors and
development.
Chaired by Congressman
Meeks and Queens Boro
President Melinda Katz the
fi rs major step was take back
in December by bringing the
council together for the fi rst
time creating committees
and constructing the JFK
Redevelopment Community
Information Center. This
center is located on Jamaica
Ave, not far from the Air
Train stop in Jamaica. It is
set to open in late January or
early February.
The JFKRDC is made up
of a wide range of community
people including elected
offi cials, business and faith
leaders, community board
members and individuals
having served the community
in different ways.
The committees are made
up of these same people
but broken down into four
different groups; Education,
Education, Career/
Workforce, and Business
Development committee
meetings were held
throughout the community
in January. According to
a committee member two
meetings, one on Education
and on Career/Workforce
were very successful. They
were formulation meetings
to determine the scope and
intent but the public was in
attendance and participated
in the meeting and asked
pertinent questions.
The Information Center
is designed for info-sharing
with a large main seating
area, private consulting
rooms for community
business and residents to
meet and share concerns,
business ideas and fi nd
out about opportunities
for minority contracting
in the JFK Airport
Redevelopment.
Currently there are four
committees: Education,
C a r e e r /Wo r k f o r c e ,
Business Development and
